The development of Lincoln, Nebraska’s Historic Haymarket District is impressive. Thirty years ago this run-down warehouse area was not a place visitors would go for a good meal and entertainment. All that has changed since the formation of the Lincoln Haymarket Development Corporation, formed in 1985. Back in the 1980s and 90s hotels like Hyatt Place Lincoln/Downtown-Haymarket were in short supply.

Great place for sports fans

exterior

Nowadays, locals and visitors alike flock to this area when the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers football or basketball teams play home games. Many of these sports fans will spend the night and the Hyatt Place is one of the best lodging choices. Onsite parking is a welcome sight after driving into this bustling entertainment district. Welcome to your home-away-from-home while you get acclimated to downtown Lincoln.

The front desk staff is young and ultra-friendly as they welcome you to their shining new hotel. The lobby area is a mix of lounge area, computer station, bar area, dining room, and front desk. Choose a room with a view of the Railyard and its outdoor big-screen TV courtyard if you want a view of the action. Quieter rooms overlooking Q Street or the inside courtyard are available too.

Tons of amenities

Hyatt Place room

The Hyatt Place was opened in 2014 and looks brand new to this day due to exceptional cleaning and maintenance. The 111 rooms are spacious and most include a sleeper sofa. Other room amenities are: MP3 docking stations, 42 inch/106.6 cm flat screen TVs with satellite channels, refrigerators, free Wi-Fi, designer toiletries, private bathrooms, separate sitting areas, and daily housekeeping. Single cup coffee makers with complimentary coffee and tea are in each room if you don’t want to journey to the first floor for free morning coffee. The bathrooms are equipped with a shower, but not a bathtub. Beds and bedding are comfortable and so clean they look brand new. Rooms and common areas are cleaned to above average standards.

Hotel amenities include a coffee shop, snack bar, deli, meeting rooms, 24 hour business center, fireplace in the lobby, safe-deposit box in lobby, laundry facilities, free airport transportation, 24 hour fitness facilities, 10 USD parking/25 USD on game day, free airport transportation, and indoor pool.

The free breakfast is a special meal at Hyatt Place. Everyday, three or more hot items grace the buffet like spinach ham egg white on English muffin halves, French toast, bacon, scrambled eggs, and oatmeal with special toppings.

Near the football stadium

Pinnacle Bank Arena

Nebraska football fans are well known as some of the friendliest in the nation. Many a visiting fan is surprised how well the locals treat “the enemy” team’s fans. That friendly factor carries over in your stay at the Hyatt Place Lincoln/Downtown-Haymarket. This is a great hotel location for walking to most everything in downtown Lincoln. The Hyatt Place Lincoln/Downtown-Haymarket is across the street from the Railyard for food and drink, a block from the Pinnacle Bank Arena, and over a dozen excellent eateries are within three blocks from the front door.

Where to eat and drink

Poutine at Leadbelly's

When it’s time to find a place to eat lunch or dinner, try Maggie’s Vegetarian Café or Pepe’s for good vegetarian fare. The Oven is tops for an expansive wine list and tasty Indian food. For great down-home meal of middle American food try Culinary Underground, Leadbelly, or Longwell’s. The poutine is a must at Leadbelly and makes a good starter to share with friends and family. For tasty baked goods, try Hurts Donut or the Rabbit Hole Bakery with its Alice and Wonderland theme.

A nice surprise

With reasonable prices, a great location, and super friendly staff, you will leave Lincoln surprised this small American city has so much to offer. The Hyatt Place Lincoln/Downtown-Haymarket is a big part of that packaged surprise.
