When people come to Hawaii, they do not think about ice skating in a tropical climate, even during the winter. However, at Ward Winter Village, you can enjoy open-air ice skating like anywhere else around the world. The only thing that is different is that the temperature is in the 27 degrees celsius (80 degrees Fahrenheit) outside, and you are ice skating just across the beach!

Ward Winter Village is where you can find an ice skating rink throughout the winter. Ward Village is located in Ward, right by Ala Moana Beach Park and the Ala Moana Center. In comparison to the Ala Moana Center, it is much smaller in scale in terms of a shopping center, but you get to see a lot more of local activities here, and this is where you can enjoy ice skating in a beach paradise Hawaii.

From Saturday farmers markets to a big movie theater, Ward is really a hang out spot for locals. When you visit Ala Moana, which is just east of Ward, there is a greater feeling of it being a more touristy atmosphere, but Ward is more targeted towards the locals. The ice skating rink is rather small in scale, but it is so intimate and cute that it just adds a sparkle to your in everyday life in Hawaii.

Ward Winter Village Ice Rink is only open from November to January, so if you are traveling to Hawaii and want to try ice skating in a tropical paradise this winter, you want to head there before Sunday, January 10th 2016. This is a limited time only ice skating rink, so you want to mark the date in your calendar now.

It is 15 USD for 1.5 hours, including the cost of your shoe rental. There are group skating discounts also available, so if you are traveling with a large group of friends, maybe you can take the offer, or you can book a private party there. If you get too cold on an ice skating rink, you can also enjoy hot cocoa at the rink, which probably tastes much better here than on the beach! Free parking is also available across the street, and there are public buses, which stop right down the street from the skating rink.

The fact that Ward Winter Village sets up an ice skating rink is truly special. At the entrance, you see many Christmas trees with decorated with lights, which create a very merry, Christmas atmosphere. With those Christmas trees, you will also see palm trees around the skating rink, making this a truly unique setting that most people do not usually get to experience.

The hours of operation change depending on holidays and weekdays, but it is usually open from 4:00pm to 9:00pm on weekdays, and again from 10:00am to 9:00pm on the weekends and holidays. If you decide to go ice skating, why don’t you go and visit the beach also at Ala Moana Beach Park,where you can swim or surf a little bit before coming to ice skate. I don’t really know anywhere else where you can swim and ice skate all in one day in the open air, like this special location!

Ward Winter Village Ice Rink is something unique and still new to even the locals here in Hawaii. I mean who thinks of ice skating in an open-air environment in Hawaii, right? The cost of ice skating with shoe rental is only 15 USD for 1.5 hours, making this a fun activity to add to your list of things to do in Hawaii. Yes, it is not probably something you think of doing in Hawaii, but why not?
