The Louis Vuitton Foundation, also known as Fondation Louis Vuitton, is a recent multi-cultural acquisition of the French capital and a marvelous piece of architecture. It’s an environmentally-friendly structure, located between the Boulogne Forest (Bois de Boulogne) and the Acclimatation Garden (Jardin d’Acclimatation). Conceived for concert performances and modern art exhibitions, the Louis Vuitton Foundation certainly deserves to be fitted into your busy Parisian schedule.

Check out the futuristic design of the Louis Vuitton Foundation

Once you lay your eyes on the Louis Vuitton Foundation you’ll be convinced that you are looking at some spaceship from a distant galaxy, but it’s a reminiscent of a sailboat whose sails are inflated by the wind. Although it can’t be noticed by looking at this photo, the foundation is topped by an “iceberg”, a central tower.

Next to the Louis Vuitton Foundation, you can enjoy a steep musical waterfall, announcing performances that take place in the building. The musical waterfall is water-powered from a lake over which the foundation rises.

Take note that you are very likely to be required to queue some time before you make it into the building, for the number of visitors is limited to avoid overcrowding. As you wait in line, you’ll be offered umbrellas and parasols by kind employees and will gain some extra time to enjoy the building’s exceptional design.

Once you are inside the Louis Vuitton Foundation, you’ll be taken to the beginnings of the Louis Vuitton organization by a small display of fashionable bags. Depending on the program, a dozen exhibition galleries of various sizes throughout the next two stories bring you into the world of visual and sound perspectives, body performances, body arts, etc. The related galleries vary in size, feature various concepts and illumination levels, and are specifically designed to bring the best of the performance or exhibition to the visitors.

The Louis Vuitton Foundation stages programs for children of various ages. While small kids are accompanied by a likable extraterrestrial visitor who accidentally landed on Earth in a discovery quest, older children can take part in interesting experiments and activities.

The cultural display, however, doesn’t end under the roof; the Louis Vuitton Foundation has an extensive terrace atop the building, which offers great panoramic views in addition to cultural exhibitions that take place there. From the roof terrace, you can observe the modern Paris’s La Defense quarter and the Jardin d’Acclimatation (an amusement park and zoo) from different angles (in the photo), the Boulogne Forest, and even the distant Eiffel Tower.

Visit the adjacent Acclimatation Garden

The Acclimatation Garden (Jardin d’Acclimatation), which can be accessed with the same ticket, is a convenient addition to your multicultural visit to the foundation, especially if you are with children. The garden has abundant greenery and entertaining facilities for children such as roundabouts, a puppet theatre, slides, etc. Some of the facilities and attractions are free (playgrounds, fun mirrors, forest adventures…), while others are subject to additional fees.

As you wander throughout the Acclimatation Garden, you can have a snack at a booth, be suddenly splashed by a cloud of sprayed droplets (only during the summer I hope), and you may even encounter tame wildlife.

How to access the Louis Vuitton Foundation?

A shuttle bus connects the Louis Vuitton Foundation with Charles de Gaulle Square (the Arc de Triomphe) for 1 EUR (1.10 USD). Public bus 244 stops next to the foundation, while a bike station, where you can place your bikes, is located in the front.

The foundation operates, in general, between 10:00 am and 8:00 pm, and the admission fee (full price for both the Louis Vuitton Foundation and the Acclimatation Garden) is 14 EUR (15.40 USD).
