Melbourne City, Australia is a bustling, artistic, and adventurous place, perfect for thrill-seekers and art lovers! Whether you are stopping over here for a short visit or for a longer vacation, there is a lot to do! The three best three things to do during your visit are recommended within this article.

1. See Melbourne from above!

The Eureka Skydeck, shooting into the sky at 285 metres (935 feet) above the ground, is a top attraction in Melbourne located in Southbank. At the bottom you can look up to see the Skydeck towering above you; enter the building to purchase tickets and get ready to take the elevator to the top! Tickets, which can be purchased online or onsite, cost 19.50 AUD (14 USD) for adults and 11 AUD (8 USD) for children. The elevator takes you up to the viewing platform in under 40 seconds, once here you get stretching views over all of Melbourne City, the suburbs, the Dandenong ranges in the distance and out to sea. Prepare a list of places to look out for when you reach the top!

The views are breathtaking, so make sure you take the time to walk around the whole Skydeck and see each area. There is a cafe located here, so you can enjoy something to eat and drink while enjoying the spectacular views. There is also a gift shop, photo booth, and a souvenir machine that turns a silver coin into a keepsake image of the Eureka Skydeck.

There are plenty of other extra viewing options available for thrill seekers including ‘The Walk’ experience where you can walk on a rope around the outside of the building! There is also ‘The Edge’ experience where you can see Melbourne through thick glass under your feet, which is definitely not for the faint-hearted!

2. Modern art lovers should head to Graffiti Alley

Melbourne is known as one of the world's capitals for Graffiti Art!

Street Art has become a huge feature in the Melbourne city-scape, now known as one of the world’s street art capitals! Throughout Melbourne, you’ll find walls and buildings featuring graffiti artists’ work. It’s an interesting way to spend your morning or day, depending on how many areas you wish to see. You may even be lucky enough to catch the artists in action!

There are several areas to make your way towards including Hosier and Rutledge Lane, opposite Federation Square, Caledonian Lane, off Little Bourke Street, Union Lane, off Bourke Street Mall, the rear of 280 Queen Street and Finlay Avenue, 21 Degraves Street, the corner of Flinders Lane and Cocker Alley, 122 Palmerston Street, Carlton and Centre Place, and between Collins Street and Flinders Lane. Updated information can be found on the street art website below.

The art is forever changing with new pieces being added daily! Put on a pair of good walking shoes and check it out!

3. Absolute must do - Federation Square and the Melbourne Exhibition and Arts Centre!

Federation Square is located opposite the Flinder’s Street Train Station and is a perfect starting or ending point to your day out in Melbourne!

Grab some delicious sushi or other meals from the street stalls located opposite the square and then sit on the steps or in one of the many chairs and enjoy! There is always something going on here and it’s a good spot to chill out and watch people go about their day! Federation Square doubles as an amphitheater and there is a giant TV screen where you can watch movies, events and even yourself, as cameras filming people as they come and go are located within the square.

Located within Federation Square is the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, which is a great place to learn about Melbourne! There are ever-changing exhibitions so do check online before you go so you can see what’s on! There is a large free exhibition area and areas for paid entry exhibitions. One exhibition that is on at all time is the ACMI (Australian Centre of Moving Image), which is well worth going to see and gives an insight to the changing technologies of the moving image (TV, Movies etc).

A city for adventurers and art-lovers!

Melbourne is a wonderful city to visit and is perfect for art lovers and adventurers alike with loads of activities to do. There are plenty of options to get around the city, i.e. by train, tram, bus or taxi. I would recommend taking the tram as it’s a unique experience that takes you directly into the heart of the city, while giving you the option to get up close and personal with the city of Melbourne.

You absolutely must take your camera with you as there are so many incredible photos to take, whether you’re 285 metres in the air or with your feet firmly on the ground. There is plenty to explore, so make the most of your trip by doing just that!
