New York City truly lives up to its reputation as a city to fawn over with its 24/7 lifestyle and unique ability to be a centre of media, culture, food, fashion, art, research, finance, and trade. The Big Apple consists of five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Harlem.

The exceptional facet of New York’s culture is that it caters to both the rich and the poor simultaneously. With a wealth of options for those on a budget, New York also has a multitude of options available for people with a bit more money to spend. It’s an exciting city where all classes, races and people from all around the world converge and converse.

Magical Manhattan will keeps you entranced

Manhattan, the famous island located between the Hudson and East Rivers, has many diverse and unique neighbourhoods. Home to the historical Empire State Building in Midtown, right next to the world-famous Central Park, Manhattan is also host to Times Square, Wall Street, Harlem and the trendy neighbourhoods of Greenwich Village and Soho. One can spend their entire visit in Manhattan with its vast amount of tourist attractions, shopping streets and famous bars.

A must-do is a walk through Central Park from top to bottom, enveloping all the surroundings in it from the locals going for a run to tour groups being led and lost through the park. The Empire State Building is right next to Central Park and can be viewed easily from any of the exits from the park - be prepared to wait in line for hours if you want to enter the building unless you’re one of the first people there that day.

If you want to view the Empire State Building and other top-priority tourist attractions from the outside, but still want the authentic Big Apple experience, the museums and galleries NYC has to offer cannot be matched. Manhattan, in particular, has some of the grandest and most fascinating: the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in Midtown has one of the most popular collections of modern art in the world.

In Uptown, you’ll find the Guggenheim Musuem, the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, the Museum of the City of New York and many more. The Financial district and Times Square also reside in Manhattan, making it one of the most diverse, eclectic neighbourhoods you’ll ever come across in the world.

Brooklyn is bustling

The most populous borough, Brooklyn is located south and east of Manhattan across the East River. To get there you have to take the famous Brooklyn Bridge and once in, it’s hard to leave due to the vast amount of music venues, artists, beaches and world famous Coney Island. For the artistically inclined, Brooklyn has become the hub of creative energy.

Home to the Brooklyn Nets as well, immerse yourself in all that Brooklyn has to offer. Go for a cheap beer at any of the dive bars that frequent the streets, or stroll around the borough for hours just people watching and popping in to all the little shops. Brooklyn, divided into several different neighbourhoods, offers great cafes in Williamsburg to quintessential New York bars in Bed-Stuy and getting down into Flatbush allows a traveler to witness the true New York Brooklyn scene: run-down homes, kids playing on the street and a real sense of community.

East of Manhattan, across the East River and surrounding Brooklyn, Queens is the most ethnically diverse region in New York and the United States. With over 170 languages spoken here, Queens is the best representation of New York one could ever wish for - you could spend your entire trip just walking around Queens and immersing yourself in the different cultures New York has to offer.

New York will never get you bored

Just like with any metropolis, New York has a persistent crime problem. Keep your belongings safe and ensure that everything is on you at all times and you’re constantly checking your pockets, especially in the crowded streets of Manhattan.

But apart from the to-be-expected crime problem; New York’s tourist attractions, artistic vibes and the overall beauty of a city that understands the meaning of the word vacation makes New York one of the most beautiful cities in the world to visit year-round. It’s hard to cover all that New York has to offer, so the best advice anyone can give you is to start walking around the city and see where it takes you, because the city will sometimes offer you the best side of itself without you even looking for it. Make sure that New York is a high-priority on your list of cities to visit in the next few months.
