When we think of Mexico, we think of tequila, mariachi band, tacos, Cenotes cavern, cave diving, and Mayan ruins. While there’re so many beautiful places to explore, we can’t think of any place as perfect as Playa Del Carmen with her numerous activities on offer as the starting point to begin your explorations in Mexico. Are you ready to celebrate life, and dance the night away like a Mexican does?

Located in the state of Quintana Roo in eastern Mexico, Playa Del Carmen is well known as a popular tourist area situated along the Caribbean sea. It’s very easy and convenient to get to Playa Del Carmen from the Cancun Airport. Once you have passed through the baggage carousel and customs, you will find the ‘ADO’ bus company stand. It will cost you 10 USD for a one way ride from the airport to downtown Playa Del Carmen and you’ll get off at Fifth Avenue (30 - 45 min drive). For the first time visitor, it is highly recommended to stay at Fifth Avenue (Quinta Avenida) since this main street is lined with bars, hotels, restaurants, and shops. You’ll find not only a wide range of accommodations from hostels, bed and breakfast to hotels, but also the pedestrian walkway, which takes you to the ferry docks (going to Cozumel) and bus station (going to cities like Cancun, Tulum, and many more). It couldn’t be more convenient.

The white sand beaches, a laid back vibe and good Mexican food are just a few reasons why you’d love Playa Del Carmen. But of course, Playa Del Carmen offers more than just authentic Mexican food. In fact, if you’re a big foodie, you can find some really good Italian cuisine at Cenacolo and La Famiglia on Fifth Avenue, and the best beach bars like Wah Wah Beach Bar, Zenzi Beach Bar, and Blue Parrot to enjoy nachos and cocktails under Mexico’s blue sky.

Obviously there’s nothing that can beat the party scene in Playa Del Carmen. While a great array of bars and clubs with good music will allow you to dance the night away, be sure to mark your calendar for the BPM Festival that will be held in the beginning of January 2016. Over 150 DJs and more than 50 events will take place over 10 days. Playa Del Carmen knows how to make people celebrate life and have fun.

As you take a stroll along Fifth Avenue, hunt for some souvenirs at the flea market and shopping malls. All of the colorful handmade crafts and ponchos are inspiring while the Mexican art scene and culture will, once again, leave you in awe.

Scuba dive and take a day trip to Cozumel

This is the place to be if you’ve always wanted to scuba dive and explore the beauty of Cenotes cavern and Mexico’s Caribbean. Many diving schools offer a variety of diving programs like Protec Diving, Phantom Divers, and Prodive Mexico.

If you’re thinking about doing a day trip to cities like Tulum and Cancun, the ADO bus company has a reliable bus schedule leaving from the bus station on Fifth Avenue and the ferry also departs regularly, almost every hour, to Cozumel. Right when you feel like you need to escape from the crowd or city life at Playa Del Carmen, Cozumel has pristine beaches to relax and clear your mind.
