A cosy guest house within easy reach of many of Vienna’s major attractions, Pension Riedl combines fine Austrian traditions with modernity, rather like the capital city itself. A small family-run guest house within a large and elegant historic building, each comfortable room at Pension Riedl is individual and named after famous people from Austria’s history. If you want an atmospheric place to stay that is in a great location for enjoying the very best of Vienna, Pension Riedl is ideal.

Comfortable and reasonably priced rooms

Pension Riedl is a quiet and intimate guest house, with just ten rooms in total.

Solo guests can save money with a stay in a Standard Single room. With a shared toilet but a private shower, a night costs around 60 EUR (approximately 68 USD) per night. Alternatively, the Comfort Single has a full en suite bathroom with shower and toilet for around 93 EUR (approximately 106 USD) per night.

There are Standard Double rooms available for around 96 EUR (approximately 109 USD) per night, each with a private bathroom and a double bed. The Comfort Double rooms have more floor space and a private bathroom. The nightly rate is around 110 EUR (approximately 125 USD), and the room is suitable for up to two guests sleeping in two single beds. The largest room type is the Superior Double. With a private bathroom, a king-sized bed, and a double sofa bed, this room costs around 135 EUR (approximately 153 USD) per night.

All rooms have central heating, large windows, a wardrobe, satellite TV, a telephone, and a kettle with tea and coffee making facilities. The more expensive rooms have been renovated and redecorated, featuring bright colours and accessories. The cheaper rooms, although un-renovated, offer lots of charm. Some people may find them a little old-fashioned, but they are still perfectly comfortable and very clean.

Welcoming reception area with lots of handy information

The cosy reception area has many useful information leaflets, as well as free city maps. A lovely touch, there is a well-stocked bowl of miniature Austrian chocolates on the counter for guests to enjoy a sweet treat when walking through to their room.

Whilst you are free to come and go as you please, the reception is only staffed for a few hours of each day. The reception times are between 7.30 am and 11.00 am, and there is a member of staff on hand in the afternoons / evenings between 4 pm and 8 pm.

When they are present, the members of staff are incredibly warm and friendly, as well as being a huge source of local information. They are able to assist with booking trips and tickets for the famous Vienna State Opera, amongst other theatres and opera houses.

If you will be arriving outside of the reception opening hours, you will be given an electronic code for the building’s main door and the door to the guest house, and your room keys will be left on the reception desk with your name attached.

If you want to stay somewhere where there is always a member of staff on hand, this might not be for you. But if you want a comfortable room with plenty of character to retreat to after a long day of sightseeing in the enchanting Austrian capital, Pension Riedl is fantastic!

Other facilities and amenities at Pension Riedl

There is a bright and airy breakfast room, with interesting black and white images on the walls showing scenes from Vienna’s past. Breakfast is not included in the room rate – it costs an additional 8 EUR (approximately 9 USD) per person. We chose not to eat breakfast at the guest house, and instead started our day with food on the go from the varied street vendors close to the metro station. If you do have breakfast at Pension Riedl, items include fresh fruit, different types of bread and cereals, cold meats, cheeses, pastries, jam, honey, tea and coffee, and more! Served buffet style, you can eat as much as you like.

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the guest house. The signal is not so reliable though, so don’t bank on having good connectivity.

Pension Riedl is situated on the fourth floor of the building. There is an elevator for convenience.

Laundry services are available, and other facilities include luggage storage, printing and photocopying, bicycle storage, and discounted rates for a nearby public car park.

Historic building in a great location

Easy to find, Pension Riedl is located on the elegant Georg-Coch-Platz and is just a short walk from Schwedenplatz metro station. Lines U1 and U4 pass through this station, making it really well-connected to other parts of the large city.

In the heart of Vienna, Pension Riedl sits close to the well-known Ringstrasse, the ring road that encircles the city’s Innere Stadt district. It is in this district where you will find most of Vienna’s gorgeous architecture and headline sights. St Stephen’s Cathedral is around a ten-minute walk from the guest house, whilst the iconic Opera House and spectacular Hofburg Palace can be reached in around 20 – 30 minutes by foot.

Right outside the building’s front door is a charming small square, surrounded by beautiful buildings. One of these buildings is the Postsparkasse, an architectural gem created by Otto Wagner. Look to the top and you’ll see that there are large statues of angels looking down over the square.

Even the building that houses Pension Riedl exudes elegance and grandeur. It is a former art deco palace, complete with attractive sculptures around the main door, patterned floor tiles, and decorative interior plasterwork.

Tips for enjoying your time in Vienna

Although the city has excellent public transportation, great for saving time and your leg power, walking through the Inner Stadt lets you soak up the city’s vibe and spot new gleaming jewels around every corner. A city well-known for its street food, bakeries, and coffee shops, walking also lets you take your time to savour the city’s culinary treats – grab a coffee in one place, a pastry in another, and snack on a hotdog as you wander from place to place.

The Vienna Pass is a good way to save money on your sightseeing, providing free access to more than 60 attractions, discounts at many establishments around the city, tours, and more!

Book your stay at Pension Riedl and discover the many delights of beautiful Vienna.
