8. Norwood
Norwood gradually developed its 1.5-mile (2.4 kilometers) landscaped boulevard into a haven of residential architecture. Dubbed as “The Placid Place” when construction began in 1910, this neighborhood succeeded in changing the face of the traditional Southern lifestyle. Commercial establishments mushroomed all around, easing country living into a more urban way of life. A streetcar brings residents to the downtown area. The beautiful Norwood attracted an eclectic mix of Italian, Greek, and Jewish people to open up businesses in the early 20th century. After years of halts in housing development, Norwood is now a potential residential haven for a new generation.
