Do you happen to be in Jakarta at the moment, and are longing for a relaxing getaway? Jakarta is a very busy city and certainly there are some spots outside of Jakarta where busy people go for a getaway. If you want some refreshment for your body, mind, and soul, where is the place to go? There is a flower garden named Taman Bunga Nusantara (the flower garden of Indonesia) in a place named ‘Cipanas’, and you will be surprised to find that this place doesn’t only offer relaxation, it also stores some wonders you won’t find in most gardens of Indonesia.

Thousands types of flowers

There are thousands types of flowers in this 35-hectare (86 acre) flower garden. Most are tropical flowers you can find in the country, but here surprisingly, you can see flowers that can be found in a subtropical, or colder country, where they normally can’t grow in the tropics. How do these flowers survive? Surely they have the technology for that. These plants are grown in a transparent 2000-square-meter (21,528 sq ft) room called a greenhouse where the temperature, light, and humidity are regulated in such a way that they resemble the climate where the plants are originated. There are many kinds of flowers here, and among the flowers are the tulips. These popular and brightly colorful European flowers still look like buds even after blossoming.

A garden in France

There are several gardens in the area, and each garden is different. Many are the representations of gardens from a certain country, and you’ll notice plants are trimmed according to the particular theme of that garden. Among several gardens, the French garden is the one you must visit. Although it doesn’t look like the ‘Garden of Versailles’ in France, it does however adopt the concept of a French garden where the plants are trimmed in regular patterns (e.g. circular, hexagonal, four sided etc.). You’ll almost feel, indeed, as if you’ve gone to Paris!

The secret garden

Inspired by the wall of Troy in the ancient Greek legend of Theseus, this garden is awesome! Are we talking about a labyrinth garden? That’s correct!. No need to go to elsewhere in the country as you can find this maze garden right here! Imagine yourself as Theseus who tried to save Princess Ariadne, who had been kidnapped by Minotaur, a Monster (like the story about the legend), got lost in the garden for a while and had no idea where to go to save her. A similar scenario might happen to you! You will find a puzzling network of paths with the thick vegetation walls that are more than 3 meters (almost 10 feet) tall. Even after several visits, you may still get lost in the garden and need time to think about how to get out.

A Japanese garden for deeper relaxation

Another type of garden you shouldn’t miss is the Japanese garden. What makes a garden a Japanese garden? There must be some characteristics or philosophy behind it. Are you familiar with the Zen concept of harmony? This is the philosophy that every Japanese garden has. Stones, a goldfish pond with small man-made waterfalls, and a bamboo house are some of the elements in this type of garden, believed to create harmony resulting in relaxation for the people inside. Go here to experience this deep relaxation!

A cool getaway for everyone

Cipanas is a hilly area in the Cianjur district, elevated more than 1000 meters (3281 ft) above sea level. You’ll notice it’s not only the flourishing flowers and nice gardens you can enjoy here, but also its cool climate and the view of Mount Gede. After the stressful days of doing many activities or being in the middle of Jakarta’s steamy jammed streets, why not go here to chill out? Kids will also love being here as there are some activities for kids too (e.g. merry go round, go kart etc.), and this place is very nice for photography also (there are giant dinosaurs made of plants!). This park is only 2 hours away from Jakarta, and it only costs 30,000 IDR (2.20 USD). So rent a car and let the driver take you here!
