Ban Rai Dok Jumpee, also sometimes spelt Ban Rai Dok Champi, is a beautiful guest house in Phetchabun’s district of Khao Kho. Within easy access of all of the popular mountain’s major sights, it is a terrific place to spend a few nights surrounded by glorious nature. Cute, comfortable, and atmospheric, get high on fresh air and sleep like a baby in one of the lovely cabins.

The en suite cabins are well-spaced out, giving you plenty of privacy and quiet time; it is easy to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and great views without any disturbances. The quaint triangular-shaped cabins are raised off the ground on stilts, surrounded by a wooden terrace. Each cabin has long wooden benches outside, ideal for sitting outside and gazing up at the starry sky as you listen to the sound of insects whirring and clacking in the darkness.

The soft bed is inviting and the thick fresh-smelling duvets keep you nice and toasty in the cooler mountain climate. Rooms have an electric fan should you need it, although you certainly won’t miss having air-conditioning for the night.

Pretty pictures hang on the sloping wooden walls and small touches, like decorative flowers, create a really warm and welcoming atmosphere. Rooms have a TV, a refrigerator with complimentary drinking water, and a wooden clothes rail.

Bury your face in the fluffy towels and inhale … the guest house certainly chooses a deliciously-scented washing detergent! Indeed, the gentle attractive fragrance lingers in the room, making you feel even more at home.

There is an onsite restaurant, although this may not be open at times during the rainy season (May to November). When the restaurant is open, it serves an assortment of popular Thai dishes. Don’t worry if you find it closed though – there are other restaurants and shops within a short drive of the property.

Guests can buy a selection of drinks from the reception area, with service available until late at night. There is a member of staff on hand all throughout the night too (although you may catch them having a snooze), making late check-ins possible.

Free Wi-Fi internet access is available, although the signal strength is a bit hit and miss depending on how far away your room is from the main building.

There is a large car park, with space to park right outside most of the bungalows.

Beautiful scenic views

The mountainous location offers gorgeous views of the natural surroundings. The early mornings are particularly inspiring, with the distant slopes and towering trees enveloped in a fine mist and low-lying clouds. You can enjoy these views right from your own verandah – there’s no need to go far at all!

As darkness falls, the lack of light pollution makes gazing upwards really quite magical. Numerous stars can be seen twinkling and shining in the inky black sky.

Nature on your doorstep

There are many colourful and fragrant flowers around the bungalows, complete with lush foliage and leafy plants. A whole host of fascinating bugs and insects are attracted by the sights and smells … watch butterflies flitting from flower to flower, listen to crickets clacking from the trees, relax to the joyous sound of birdsong, and observe many small creatures going about their business. Make sure you keep your door shut though to avoid any unwanted roommates from making their way inside!

The guest house takes its name from a type of flower from the magnolia family. With plenty of these flowers around the bungalows, you will be greeted by an aromatic treat each time you walk out of your door.

The prices are very reasonable during the low / rainy season, with a cabin costing just 700 THB (approximately 20 USD) per night. During the high season, the prices can see a pretty steep hike though – up to as much as 2,000 THB (approximately 56 USD) per night. Compared to typical prices for a standard resort in Western countries, however, this is still a pretty great price for such a charming accommodation option that is nestled at the heart of picturesque scenery.
