The Spa Center of Loutra were first discovered by a farmer who was looking for sulfur to “feed” his vineyards. After the end of World War II, residents blew up the rocks with dynamite and hydrosulfide water was released, creating the hot springs.
Halkidiki Thermal Spa Center was built in 2000 and it offers a variety of treatments for healing and rejuvenation. The thermal water is famous for its therapeutic benefits against many ailments of the bones, joints, muscles and skin.
The Loutra spa experience
Upon entering the sulfur waters, you will immediately feel warmth and relaxation in your body. The water is green and non-transparent because of the sulfur and the heat. The temperature of the water is between 34.5 - 36 °C (94.1 - 96.8 ºF). Let the warmth surround your body and go to the small waterfalls if you want a special hydromassage.
The cost is 5 EUR (5.66 USD) for a 30-minute swim in the pool and there are different prices for each service. In the reception area, there is a friendly guy who will show you the price catalog and explain every treatment in detail to you. You pay at the front desk and then you go inside the locker rooms. It is better to wear your swimming suit under your clothes, but even if you don’t, you can easily change inside, lock your things in the lockers and go inside the pool. Towels are not provided so you must have your own.
After the end of the relaxing process, you will return back to the locker room where you can enjoy a hot water shower, change to your clothes and leave the Halkidiki Thermal Spa Center relaxed and full of energy.
If you want, there is a cafe bar right at the entrance so in case you would like to prolong your stay in the center, you can have a coffee or a refreshment overlooking the Aegean Sea.
Have in mind that the Halkidiki Thermal Spa Center gets really crowded during the summer so the best time to go is off season. It is best to avoid July-August.

The therapeutic properties of the water tend to minimize bone and joint ailments, rheumatoid arthritis, discopathy, psoriasis, acne and much more. This is the reason it is crowded all year round, mostly by older people, who visit constantly not only to relax but also to take advantage of the therapeutic abilities for a very good price.
