San Francisco, a colorful city filled with excitement, is a popular tourist destination. Some of its major attractions include the Golden Gate Bridge and the Alcatraz, which are the key places to explore for visitors. Hidden away from the bustling city is the Palace of Fine Arts. This is not a widely popular destination, because it is a small place and many tourists are not keen to spend the travelling time to visit this gem. Although it may be small, visiting the Palace of Fine Arts will definitely leave special memories, especially for couples, during your stay in San Francisco. This small, but extremely romantic place, deserves more attention from the world.
Stunning stone pillars with beautiful swans
The Palace of Fine Arts is completely free unless you are planning to watch a show at the theatre! Although it is known as a Palace, it is basically a free-roaming park with stunning stone pillars. To add on to the ambience, you can spot cute ducklings waddling in the pond, as well as beautiful swans! There is a theatre which features plays or dances. You are encouraged to check the event calendar on the official website for upcoming events. The theatre is sometimes closed to public for private events, such as weddings or corporate functions. If that happens, you can still stroll around the palace, which is definitely the best part of the visit.
Take a romantic stroll around the palace
This is a beautiful place, but small. You can complete your walk in less than 30 minutes. However, you can take a slow stroll around the premises, or sit on the benches to watch the ducks, swans, and even beautiful couples. During the summer, it can be hot, so remember to stay hydrated and apply plenty of sun-block. The best time to visit is in autumn or spring where the cool weather enables you to relax on the bench for a long time. When night falls, the palace will be lit up, enabling the soft warm light to touch the heart of every visitor.
Spot the beautiful swans on the grass
Looking for the elegant swans? They are not in the water, but on the grass! The swans are generally not timid, so you can get a little close to them for a picture. Avoid touching them or making loud noises, as that may scare them. Although the attraction is not widely popular with tourists, it can get pretty crowded. You can see locals strolling around, or sitting on a bench. There are also tourists taking snapshots of the area, but leaving within a short frame of time. Occasionally a tour bus will stop by, and alight some tourists for a 15 minute tour. Most of the time, you can expect serenity in this place.
