As a local I probably shouldn’t say so… but Barcelona is the place to be. Its cozy weather, stunning architecture, relatively low prices and a nightlife scene that can compete with that of Ibiza make the capital of Catalonia one of the most visited, and most loved, destinations in the world. Millions of people visit it every year and the accommodation offer is huge. However, a hostel located between the neighborhoods of Gràcia and l’Eixample stands out from the rest: the hostel Generator Barcelona.

We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) Superhost status, recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and amenities. The image galleries get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on April 04, 2024.

A splendid location next to one of Barcelona’s most bustling neighborhoods

Generator Barcelona is located in the busy Còrsega street, in the southern part of Gràcia, arguably the neighborhood with most personality in the city. It is very close to two subway stations (Diagonal, of the green line and Verdaguer, of the blue and yellow lines), a myriad of buses and next to the crossroad of two of Barcelona’s main streets: Diagonal and Spain’s most expensive street, the luxury-store-filled Passeig de Gràcia. Thanks to these connections, you will easily get to any part of the city in no time and you won’t have any problem in getting back to the hostel at any time of the day.

A jaw-dropping interior decoration reminiscent of Gràcia’s local festivities

Probably the most distinctive features of Generator Barcelona, besides its location, are its bar and chill-out lounge. Located at the ground floor, the bar and the lounge are bathed in the yellowish light that several lamps provide. These were made as a little homage to the Festes de Gràcia, Gràcia’s local festivities, held in August, when the neighbors of various streets in this neighborhood decorate the streets using recycled material and according to an agreed leitmotiv. The bar offers both food and drinks, always blending local cuisine and traditional dishes with modern techniques and exotic recipes. The drink menu has virtually every drink you could think of, from Spanish sangría to Cuban rums and Mexican tequilas. The chill-out lounge, embedded into the bar, is the perfect space to have a drink while resting after an exhausting day around the city or to pre-drink before going out to any of Barcelona’s multiple nightclubs.

Affordable rooms with comfy beds and breathtaking views (from USD 65)

You would think that such a well-located, luxurious and classy hostel would be at least as expensive as a hotel, but Generator Barcelona is, first and foremost, a hostel for young (and usually not extremely rich) people. You can sleep in a 6 to 8 beds shared room from 9 EUR (10 USD) per night, stay in a private triple or quadruple room from 14 EUR (16 USD) per person per night or book a private twin room from 32 EUR (36 USD) per person per night. Taking into account that a hotel room in Barcelona usually costs around 100 EUR (113 USD), Generator Barcelona is a real bargain! All the rooms are en-suite and have sun-soaked windows with breathtaking views from the neighborhoods of Gràcia and l’Eixample. If money’s not an issue for you, you might want to go all in and spend the night in The Penthouse, the biggest room in Generator Barcelona, and the most expensive one, with the price per person per night starting at 200 EUR (225 USD).

It’s hard to find a better hostel to stay while in Barcelona!

Remember, if you are planning on visiting Barcelona, don’t stay in any of the cheaply-made (but expensively-charged) hotels and hostels in the city center or in any of the old, tiny and equally expensive Airbnb apartments near the sea: book a bed in Generator Barcelona and spend all the money you’ll save in getting the best out of the city. I’m sure once your holidays in the county city are over, you won’t be able to wait to visit any of the other Generator hostels around Europe!
