Thailand’s province of Trang is located in the southern part of the country. The main provincial city is also called Trang, and it is an ideal base from which to explore the province’s beautiful coasts, gorgeous islands, and mountainous interior. Sri-Trang Hotel occupies a great location in the heart of the city and right opposite Trang train station.

In operation since the early 1950s, the hotel is within a historic building. Combining Chinese and Portuguese styles and showing the influences that the Hokkien Chinese and Portuguese had on the country in the past, this style of architecture is somewhat rare in Thailand today.

Marketing itself as a boutique hotel, but probably more like a mid-range backpacker accommodation, the Sri-Trang Hotel offers comfortable rooms at reasonable prices, as well as an assortment of other facilities and amenities.

Choice of affordable rooms for a great night’s sleep

All rooms at the Sri-Trang Hotel have a private bathroom, hot water, and air-conditioning. Solo travellers can save money with a single room, and there are also rooms for two guests with a choice of either two single beds or one double bed.

Single rooms cost around 600 THB (approximately 16.80 USD) per night, and rooms for two cost around 750 THB (approximately 21 USD) for a night.

Enjoy watching satellite TV, complete with English channels (quite a rarity in this part of the country), and keep drinks and snacks cool in the full-sized refrigerator. You’ll find complimentary bottles of drinking water in the fridge. Each room also has a small seating area, with a table and chair(s).

Stand-alone electric fans are also provided, ideal for if you find sleeping with the air-conditioning a bit too chilly.

Comfortable beds and attractive touches

The spacious and clean rooms have several pretty features to make them feel a bit more like home. Artwork adorns the walls and there are lacy tablecloths and doilies to add the finishing touches. You’ll see that the guest towels are fancily arranged when you first enter the room and each time after your room has been cleaned throughout your stay.

The beds are comfortable, with firm, but not hard, mattresses and decent quality bed linen. You should have no problems drifting off to sleep!

Onsite restaurant and other hotel facilities

The Sri-Trang Hotel has its own restaurant / café on the ground floor, the 1952 Café. With a vintage feel, you can enjoy a selection of Thai and international cuisine. Thai dishes include a variety of fried rice dishes and international meals include sandwiches, pizza, and burgers. You can choose to sit inside in air-conditioned comfort, or pull up a seat on the pavement to watch the world go by.

There is also a bar, Wunderbar, that serves a selection of drinks and snacks. It’s a lively place to chill out with a bottle of Singha, Leo, or Chang (Thai beers) and meet other travellers and local expats.

The hotel advertises the availability of free Wi-Fi throughout the property. However, at the time of stay, the signal wasn’t very reliable in the rooms. Sitting in the café, or a small seating area tucked away behind the lobby and next to the stairs, was the only way to secure a reasonable connection.

You can book local trips and tours onsite, including boat trips to Trang Island, snorkelling excursions, and nearby waterfalls. The friendly members of staff can also assist with arranging onwards transportation by bus, train, plane, and boat.

Activities in the local area

Trang is a fantastic place to stay if you want the feel of staying in more of a traditional Thai city and domestic holiday destination. The local mainland beaches, such as Had Pak Meng, are easy to reach by local transport. Wander around the weekend market, which sets up on the road right in front of the hotel, and sample delicious Thai snacks, such as the local Trang cake, whilst browsing a good selection of clothes and souvenirs. The local temples make for an interesting visit, and Wat Tantayaphirom is especially attractive.

Stay at the Sri-Trang Hotel for a convenient location in the centre of Trang, delicious food and drinks available onsite, and spacious rooms with plenty of comfort.
