Akita Prefecture is an onsen paradise, with many famous onsen areas.

Although, Yokote City is famous for its Yokote Yakisoba, there is a hot spring here that onsen fans will love and flock to.

Kyorinso is the onsen in question in the Nango Yume Onsen area.

Although it is an inn and you can stay here, there is a visitor bath that the locals line up for.

Even if you aren’t an onsen fanatic you should visit here at least once.

20 minutes’ drive from the the city cent or Yokote

Before September of 2005 Kyorinso was in Hirakagunsannaimura but since October of that year it has merged with Yokote City.

Although, Kyorinso is part of Yokote City it is about 20 minutes by car from the center of the city because of that.

Kyorinso is surrounded by mountain forests lending to a scenic view.

In the day the parking lot is usually full hinting at the popularity amongst the locals.

First off the large bath house ~basic spring~

At Kyorinso there are two baths for women and men each.

One of those is the above basic spring onsen.

This bathing room is separated into two sections hotter and cooler in the back and foreground respectively.

The cooler side is leveled with the shallow part only 20cm deep allowing you to lay down and bathe.

Also, outside the windows, there is a small outdoor bath.

Although it is a basic spring it has a slight scent of sulfur to it.

Although completely clear the water is really fantastic.

Of course this water is straight from the source with no additives and free flowing.

Small but wonderful outdoor bath

Built alongside is the outdoor bath using the same basic hot spring water.

It is fairly small and the view isn’t great as all you see is the fence but you have to be thankful for an outdoor bath. (the view is due to department of health regulations and can’t be helped apparently)

One thing you can’t see is the hot spring water fall that you can have hit your back here.

Try it out when you get here it really is relaxing.

This is the mysterious rare hot spring water!

The other bath is the alkaline sulfide onsen.

Although there is only an indoor bath don’t pass this up.

This water is actually very rare!

When you first open the door you are immediately hit with a strong scent of sulfur mixed with what smells like oil.

The aroma here is probably the only one of its kind in Japan.

Another thing is in the picture it’s lightly blue clear water but depending on the day, actually depending on the hour the water can be deep blue to emerald green or white, and sometimes even black.

In most cases when onsen water comes up from the ground it is usually clear, but as it touches air it changes color depending on the minerals, and it changes color based on time and other reasons.

This is one of the mysteries and gifts that nature and mother earth bestow on us.

Although the room is built in tile and feels a bit hospital like the hot spring water here is truly exceptional.

A one of a kind onsen

Calling this sulfur hot spring one of kind isn’t far off the mark.

Depending on when you go or what time it is the water changes color.

And not only that the freshness of the onsen is very high because this water is pure and straight from the source.

The feel of the water is extraordinary with its slippery texture that is distinctive to alkaline water.

It really is an onsen that you have to use all five of your senses to the max.

Each time you visit Kyorinso is unique and a treasure.

It is one of Akita Prefecture’s hidden gems of an onsen.
