Just outside Los Angeles, La Habra is a sizable town in Orange County, California. Known for its museums, festivals, and other events, it is a truly interesting place to visit. Its driving distance to Los Angeles and nearby towns makes it an ideal spot to stop and stay.

1. Visit the La Habra Historical Museum

Also known as the Old Settlers Historical Museum (because it was founded by the La Habra Old Settlers Historic Society), the La Habra Historical Museum “serves as an interpretive center focusing on the many historical eras in the community’s development”. It’s only open on Saturdays, but exhibits feature all kinds of historical artifacts in La Habra’s history.

Even if art isn’t your thing, you should check this place out. Why? Because they’ve got everything - including weird stuff. Exhibits of Pop Art, female artists from the 90s, contemporary art, landscapes, something they call The Pacific Project, and more. Popular for its tournaments and as a wedding/event venue, this golf club knows what’s up; they even have a special on Mondays called “Monster Mondays”, where you can golf at a discounted price. With incredible views of the San Gabriel Mountains and the Los Angeles skyline, it’s like an oasis in the middle of the city.

Los Angeles is only a 40-minute drive from La Habra, so why wouldn’t you visit? Even if you just keep driving around, taking in the Hollywood sign or the strip, or passing by all the studios, it’s worth it to say you’ve explored one of the country’s most famous cities. While you’re there, maybe treat yourself by stopping at a cafe that looks good and enjoy a cup of coffee, or take a walk on the beach.

5. If you’ve got kids, visit the Children’s Museum

I mean, I guess you can visit even if you don’t have kids, but it is geared toward children. Classes, birthday parties, field trips, and other special events like S.M.ART Fridays and mini golf tournaments make this museum a fun learning atmosphere for kids. Plus, you can just take a good old fashioned tour around the museum; every room is different and holds a new fascination - including a little carousel!

If you’re on vacation, you might as well shop, right? They’ve got the big brand name stores, plus some high-end ones that I’ve never even heard of! Not to mention all the different restaurants. If you go here, I’m sure you’ll struggle to decide which stores to visit and where to eat; maybe you should make a day of it. See their site for their complete list of stores.

7. See a show at La Habra Depot Playhouse

Seeing a show is always one of my favorite things to do. And in La Habra, Mysterium Theater is the group that does it all - shows, classes for singing, dancing, and acting. They’ve only been around since 2009, and “in 2014, the City selected Mysterium to lease La Habra’s Depot Playhouse […] Mysterium staged several plays beginning in September of 2014, and has continued to offer a variety of musicals, plays, magic shows, stand-up comedy and more!” So if you’re in town, take them up on their offer to “come play” with them, and see a show.

Mysterium Theater

Address: 311 S. Euclid Street, La Habra, CA 90631

Price: from 25 USD general admission

Opening Hours: Thursday - Saturday shows at 7:31pm, Sunday at 3:01pm. Box Office opens an hour before each show. Doors open 15 minutes before show.

If you like museums, or if you’d like to attend a unique festival you likely haven’t been to before, give La Habra a try. Or, if you’d like to see the city of angels and Tinseltown but don’t want to stay there, La Habra is nearby. Either way, if you’re looking for something new, La Habra is the place for you.
