Following the inevitable destiny of many of Singapore’s shophouse-lined neighbourhoods, the Farrer Park enclave has seen gentrification over the years, abandoning its aviation and racecourse heydays far behind. Cafés have popped up along Rangoon Road, peppering the low-slung buildings with aesthetic havens for foodies and coffee connoisseurs alike. Yet, the actual structures and much of the ornamental details of the heritage buildings have been respectfully preserved, with the shophouse’s decorative panels and carvings highlighted in full glory.

Amidst the vibrant community, a sleek silhouette towers over the rest; its glass panelling reflects the cloud-dappled azure, seemingly serving as an attempt at camouflage. Whether it was unconscious or part of the design brief not to compete with the striking heritage architecture it is surrounded by, apart from its size, Park Hotel Farrer Park does not stand out in any significant way from Farrer Park’s colourful skyline. What does stand out, however, is the hotel’s all-encompassing embracing of its neighbourhood and the uncompromising dedication to service and attention to detail, making it the perfect gateway to the myriad of delights that the area has to offer.

Personalised service

Park Hotel Farrer Park

Shaped by the hotel group’s mission for their guests to ‘Discover Love’ during their stay, Park Hotel Farrer Park supplies each guest with their own beautifully designed explorer’s guide to Farrer Park. Embellished with stunning watercolours depicting the neighbourhood, the guide shares insider tips for nature and heritage lovers, local food enthusiasts and culture vultures, allowing a full immersion into Farrer Park’s hidden gems. The motto also translates into the impeccably personalised service, with the importance of human connection remaining at the forefront of all interactions. It so happened that my stay coincided with my birthday - from the front desk wishing me a happy birthday as soon as I checked in, to the balloon-lined bed and the delivery of a birthday cake, every detail was thoughtfully planned to ensure that I had a memorable stay.

Guest rooms

Nestled upon Farrer Park MRT station, the 20-storey hotel houses 300 modern guest rooms. We stayed in a Crystal Club room, which was comfortable but nothing to shout about; the bathroom was on the small side and some of the toiletries were missing when we got there, though this was promptly rectified by the dedicated concierge after a quick call. The Superior rooms, Deluxe rooms and Crystal Club rooms are all more or less the same in terms of their modest size and merely differentiated by varying levels of guest privileges, so would be ideal for couples and business travellers who don’t intend on spending extended time in their room. Those looking for a more spacious offering should probably opt for the Sky Loft or Premier Loft. All rooms boast either a queen-sized bed or two twin beds, with the option of adding an extra bed.

Facilities and F&B

The hotel also features a club lounge, an outdoor swimming pool and a compact but fully equipped fitness centre. Located on the 12th floor of the hotel, the Crystal Club Lounge offers exclusive privileges such as private check-in and check-out, complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails, and complimentary laundry. We had the pool terrace largely to ourselves that Sunday, which made for a delightful afternoon dipping in and out of the refreshing water. The poolside playlist was perhaps a tad loud for complete relaxation, but apart from that, the lush botany and neighbouring terracotta roofs and set the perfect scene for soaking in the final rays of the weekend with a book in hand - definitely the highlight of our stay.

The hotel offers three distinct F&B concepts; a Thai restaurant, an American gastro bar and a coffee house serving specialty brews. Venturing out of the hotel sets guests off on a culinary adventure, including neighbourhood favourites such as Old Hen Coffee Bar (an industrial chic cafe serving arguably one of the best cold brews in town), Non Entrée Desserts (enchantingly creative twists on traditional desserts), Char (a modern take on Cantonese roast meats) and Sushi Jin (premium Japanese cuisine without the hefty price tag).

A gateway to the Farrer Park neighbourhood

Located a 5 minutes walk from the vibrant Tekka Centre and 24-hour Mustafa Centre, Park Hotel Farrer Park is a highly convenient and comfortable base for explorers and business travellers. While the rooms are quite standard, the colour injected into the stay by the passionate staff and the dynamic surroundings more than make up for it.
