Imagine a 70 acre (28.3 hectare) farm where a historic 1855 home welcomes guests and their pets with open arms. Flower gardens provide moments of joy as butterflies go about their task of gathering pollen. Nearby is a swimming pool where guests can lounge for hours undisturbed by the modern world. A short walk through the towering woods on a wide trail opens to a view of the magnificent Chesapeake Bay and Baltimore in the distance.

As you enter the long driveway it feels like arriving at Tara Plantation in the movie Gone With the Wind. Upon arrival, you’ll be shown to your room or cottage where you are briefed on the aspects of this country manor. The Inn was once a 1,200 acre (485.6 hectare) estate deeded by Lord Baltimore himself, this remnant still impresses visitors some 300 years later.

Choose your room

Inn at Huntingfield Creek has five plush guestrooms and seven private cottages to escape for a weekend getaway or longer. Total capacity is 24-30 counting guestrooms and cottages. Although pets are welcome, some cottages and guest rooms are kept pet-free for those with allergies. The pet fee is a reasonable 25 USD per pet, per night.

Guest rooms provide Swiss-style down duvets and bedding, arm chairs, and luxury bath toiletries, but no TV. Cottages are the ultimate romantic retreat and unlike guestrooms come with hdtv. Some cottages have a soaking tub, while others have a jetted tub. Each cottage was designed with extreme comfort in mind. Amenities include a microwave, fridge, books, coffee maker, and some have a cooktop for preparing simple meals. A BBQ grill is available for outdoor cooking if needed.

The beds are ultra-comfortable, and combined with the quiet Rock Hall countryside, you’ll sleep well. Some cottages come with a Tempur-Pedic sofa-sleeper if you have others joining you. The sleeper sofa can accommodate two small children or an extra adult.

A walk around the estate

A hammock awaits your inspection

During your stay, there will be gardens to visit, a short walk to the Chesapeake Bay, books to read in the library, snacks to taste, and maybe just relax in your room for a spell. A hammock spans two trees by the flower gardens outback inviting you to take a nap if desired. If you’ve brought a dog or two, there’s plenty of room to let them romp on the spacious grounds that are meticulously maintained. Acres of mowed lawn will have your dog euphoric at the chance to run, walk, or play with you at Huntingfield Creek.

The owners, Jim and Joanne Rich, invite you to share in the joy of spending time in the green and vibrant Kent County shore area. Joanne is a talented cook and baker. Each day there will be treats from the kitchen with the main event a full country breakfast served at 8:30 am sharp. At breakfast, indulge in specialties like Joanne’s lemon chiffon pancakes, bacon, eggs, chicken sausage, fruit salad and whatever else is fresh and ready for the table. A peach tree so full of peaches the branches threaten to reach the ground, might just be in a tart or fruit salad if your timing is good.

A very special event

For special events, like weddings, family gatherings, or business retreats, the inn is able to accommodate 8-150 persons, maybe more. The long dining room table is perfect for parties up to 12, while the modern barn was built just for events like yours. Dinner can be arranged on site with prior arrangements if you wish to dine on-site.

Several package deals are offered by the Inn at Huntingfield Creek. The inn offers a sailing package that includes a picnic lunch and a 90-minute sailing trip. A spa package provides two massages, a deluxe spa bath basket, sparkling water, fresh fruit, and snacks.

With Rock Hall just a few minutes drive from the Inn, plot your own course through this vacation location on the Chesapeake Bay. Several excellent restaurants are perfect for a dinner to remember. Try the Waterman’s Crab House overlooking the bay for lunch or dinner. Fine dining is best experienced at either Pearl On Main, Bay Wolf, or the Inn at Osprey Point. If ice cream is on your agenda, don’t miss Get The Scoop ice cream shack on the corner of Main and Highway 445.

Take time to watch the sunset

When your day is done, come back to the Inn at Huntingfield Creek and watch the sunset from their dock overlooking the Chesapeake Bay with a glass of wine in hand. Life doesn’t get much better than this!
