Smack dab in the middle of downtown Dallas is the Joule, a boutique luxury hotel. Named after the international unit of energy, this hotel will wow you with its energy. Whether you enter from the Main Street or Commerce Street entrances a large moving cog-and-wheel sculpture will grab your attention. One monstrous wheel is suspended from the lobby ceiling, and the other stands are upright making contact from floor to ceiling.

If that’s not eye-catching enough several tall mosaic pieces of artwork by Millard Sheets, a mid-century artist whose pieces adorned the Mercantile Building will attract your attention. These stunning works of art were to be demolished with the Mercantile Building until Joule owner Tim Headington stepped in to save them in 2012. Tim spent a lot of money salvaging and restoring these precious works of art. The Joule displays more than 70 of them currently. Art lovers will enjoy exploring The Joule’s public areas to see what works of art owned by Tim Headington are on display.

A pet palace

Checking in at reception you will be briefed on the key points of your stay. Nine room types await your discretion. The Demi-Joule is cozy, but comfortable. Guests will enjoy 300 thread-count sheets, rainfall showers, down pillows, 47”/18.5 cm flat-screen TV, Apple TV, Niven Morgan in-room bath amenities, mini bar, free weekday newspaper, and 24 hour in-room dining. The Joule is a pet friendly hotel, no deposit, but guests are required to sign an agreement to pay for any damages fido might cause.

A Premier Room will give you space to kick up your heels in a 600 sq ft/55 m² space while sampling drinks from the mini bar and indulging in local goodies. For the Texas-style billionaires or billionaire wannabes, there are penthouses ranging from 1,350 sq ft/125.4 m² to 2,500 sq ft/325 m² to choose from. These pleasure palaces up high feature oversized living rooms, kitchens, dining room table, exquisite views and museum quality art. If that’s not enough to wow you, consider you will have your own outdoor entertaining area, Bose sound systems, oversized tubs, and a fully stocked bar: a perfect place to live it up in the Big D.
