Located at Nusa Dua, Bali, the Mulia, Mulia Resort & Villas is indeed one of the most splendid hotels in Bali. It’s not without reasons why this hotel was nominated as the Number One Beach Resort in the World by the popular US travel magazine, Conde Nast Traveler USA (Readers’ Choice Awards 2014). Its luxurious and clean settings, professionalism and great variety of delicious cuisines are unbeatable!
The Mulia, Mulia Resort & Villas
This is one of the biggest hotels in Bali. Under the Mulia umbrella, there are close to 800 rooms in total and the accommodations are divided into 3 areas: The Mulia, Mulia Resort and Mulia Villa. ‘The Mulia’ and 'Mulia Resort’ are the ones overlooking the ocean and the beachfront pool, whereas 'Mulia Villa’ has garden view, but with a private pool.
Super clean private beach
The hotel is situated at Geger beach, Nusa Dua, where a small part of this beach is owned by the hotel (to be able to enter the private beach, you need to stay in either at The Mulia or Mulia Villas). The water of Geger beach is relatively calm hence it is a good place for swimming and snorkeling. If you think you have seen a clean beach somewhere else in Bali, you may change your mind after coming here. The sand may not be the whitest, but it is well-guaranteed you will not find any rubbish anywhere at this beach! The hotel staffs are always there to clean the beach thoroughly and they will spot it right away if you happen to accidentally drop your keys on the sand!
They put sun loungers along the private beach and beachfront pool to enable you to sit and relax. At the pool area, you will find some tall statues of ladies slightly bowing, wearing a kind of cape and carrying a tray. These have become the symbol of the hotel. Nowhere else can you find these statues and to me, the statues symbolize the hotel’s full commitment to serve all of its guests.
Clean and hygienic room
Some people may be particular about cleanliness and hygiene, but at the Mulia, you can be rest assured as there is the ‘stain policy’. Any irremovable stain made by a guest wihtin the hotel is subject to a certain amount of fine. Haha! It may look awkward to many, but it is a good way to ensure this hotel remains one of the cleanest in Bali. The mattress, blankets, carpets, bathrooms etc. may look like those of other 5-star hotels, but the ones you see here are probably the cleanest and the most spotless hotel facilities!
Rates start from 245 USD for a grandeur room (57 sqm, with patio, no access to the beach) to 1,490 USD for a family villa ocean view (600 sqm, with more amenities like 2 bedrooms, hot tub, private garden, beach and swimming pool, etc.). Wi-Fi is fast and accessible from all areas, but additional charges apply.
Lifeguards on beach and pools
Many guests swim on the beach and there are at least 5 different swimming pools in the whole area. If the area is so big, then safety issue may be your concern when swimming, especially when if you are travelling with kids. You may not be able to swim because you need to accompany or watch the children while swimming. In this hotel, things are handled professionally by its personnel. There will be lifeguards on the beach and at each of the pools. The lifeguards will watch over everyone who is in the water and give assistance when needed. When there are kids with you, they will come to you and offer pool floats for free. They will also provide you with towels and you can ask them to take some pictures of you and your loved ones.

Delicious buffet at The Cafe
There are several restaurants in the hotel area, but The Cafe is the only one that provides breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet for 7 days a week (30 USD for adults, lower price for kids). The food variety is awesome and they serve ‘luxurious’ foods such as imported clams and Alaskan crabs (with cocktail sauce). For Asian food, not only do they serve Japanese, Chinese and Indonesian cuisines like in most other hotels, but you will also find Thai, Vietnamese and Indian food here! The chewy and spicy seafood 'pad thai’ noodles (Thai), refreshing lemon fish soup (Vietnamese) and Indian spicy beef curry are the ones you must have among the sumptuous spread (make sure you eat a little bit of each so that you don’t miss these foods). Another highlight is the huge ice cream rotating bar! There are twelve different ice cream flavors to taste (rum raisin, green tea, orange sherbet etc.) and walking around the round bar may make you dizzy. Haha!.This bar constantly turns and will stop when you put your hand into it for the ice cream.
Great ocean view from Cascade lounge
There are several lounges available for all guests, but to get the best ocean view, go to Cascade lounge, located on the 7th floor. Since it’s on the higher floor (other lounges are in the 1st floor), you can see further into the horizon and see the white foams caused by the breaking waves! While the weather can get steamy in the afternoon, in here you will not feel the heat because of the ocean wind. After working out and having spa in the hotel’s gym, it’s a good idea to come over, order some cakes and drinks from Mulia Deli downstairs (they have the best bacon bread!), relax and enjoy your snacks accompanied by the magnificent view!
The most luxurious hotel in Bali
Nusa Dua is known as Bali’s most elite area. It is certainly packed with 5-star hotels. However, if you want ultimate luxury, stay at Mulia. The very well-maintained private beach, stain-free hotel area, friendly lifeguards to guarantee your safety in the water, many choices of restaurants; these factors simply make it excel among other hotels in Nusa Dua and Bali!
