Nitehawk Cinema offers a unique experience by combining culinary and cinematic experience. It is New York’s original cinema eatery screening independent movies and serving speciality meal and drink items inspired by its films. A visit to Nitehawk Cinema can go many ways, take it slow by grabbing a beer and sitting back to enjoy the movie or go full out by indulging in a meal and enjoying the film.
Conveniently located in the Art District of Brooklyn, Williamsburg
Conveniently located in Wlliamsburgh, Brooklyn, Nitehawk Cinema is a mere 10-minute walk from Bedford Avenue metro station. Williamsburg is known to be an artistic district in New York, with its many art museums, restaurants, vintage shops and quiet coffee shops. The Nitehawk Cinema fits right into that culture, offering a varied genre of independent films and box office hits. The creativity of its chefs can be seen in its special food menu that changes through the film season.
Cheaper tickets over the counters and great service
The cinema can get crowded during weekends, so if you want to avoid the crowd, you may like to go on a weekday. This way, you can get tickets over the bar counter rather than getting them online to save a buck. It is general seating, so be sure to arrive at least 30 minutes before if you want to choose the best seats.
The theaters looks like a regular theater with rows of plush red foldable seats but with small tables fixed between every 2 seats where servers can place your food. There is plenty of leg room for stretching and this allows the servers to shuffle in and out, as they bring you meals and drinks. Before the movie starts, your server will come by and tell you a bit more about how it works. Whenever you are ready to order, there are slips of paper to write your orders. Your server will come and collect them. The theatre may be dark but the servers are really attentive, so do not worry, they’ll come!
Food for the mind and a hungry stomach
Nitehawk Cinema serves substantial meals of steak sandwiches and fish tacos or light bites of vegetable fritters, homemade jerky and truffle butter popcorn. There is a wide variety of beverages such as sodas, house cocktails, beers and a whole range of liqueurs. Each movie shown at the museum has it’s own speciality item on the menu. You can go with that or choose to try any of the others items on the menu. I personally recommend going with the item that ties with the movie at this heightens the experience and emotions of the movie. Once, I watched “The Wolfpack” with the cinema’s specialty meal of angulo lasagna. Right on cue, as I was eating it, the lead character says that lasagna is his family’s favourite meal; “it’s always lasagna”. You get a sense of involvement in the characters’ lives and the setting of the movie. Each speciality item ties with its movie differently. So you will be surprised.
Appreciate food and movie at the same time
The Nitehawk cinema is a great experience. The cinema is great for appreciating food and the work of filmmakers. You will be surprised how eating foods depicted in the movie can create an intense sense of affinity with the film’s characters. As the themes in Nitehawk’s films are mature, it is most suitable for families with older children, amongst friends and movie buffs.
