There are many good family resorts in Bali, including Westin Resort Nusa Dua, which focuses its attention on children. Staying in this beachfront resort is like staying at your own dream home, as you and your family can choose not to leave the hotel for the whole day because of the numerous facilities and activities offered by the resort, especially for kids. Dining and lazing at the beachside restaurant and gazebo, as well as swimming at the resort’s private beach are just a few of the interesting activities offered. There are some other cool things both adults and kids can enjoy here.

Huge resort with lots of shade

Once you enter the resort, you will notice this is a large resort with lush greenery and a lot of shade to escape Bali’s tropical heat during the day. Big trees are everywhere and there are many cabanas located throughout the resort’s outdoor areas for you to cool off.

Modern lobby

The resort has several multi-storey buildings, and the lobby is located on the ground floor of the main building (it’s a large building right in front of the convention center building). As you arrive in the lobby you will see one or two Balinese dancers in traditional costume performing in the lobby entrance, and to welcome you, they will dance the graceful ‘legong’ dance, known for their intricate finger movements.

In contrast with the natural and lush appearance outdoors, the lobby is very modern (to me it looks like an airport!). The air-conditioned and sparklingly clean lobby is very spacious. I love the warm-mellow lighting decorations here and there in the lobby, as the light is reflected off the sparkling marble floors, the wooden roof, and the rails above the lobby.

Comfortable seating areas can be found throughout the lobby, including the terrace (I loved sitting on the lobby’s terrace, and enjoying the greenery while having a sip of my cocktail from the lobby bar). There is also a computer station where you can use one of the three computers for free (with free Wi-Fi), and some boutique shops selling local crafts. Other amenities in the lobby include safe deposit boxes (at the front desk), as well as a currency exchange and some ATM machines from local banks (local banks, Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, and Cirrus are welcome).

Beautiful, clean rooms

The resort’s rooms, including its deluxe rooms (1,655,280 IDR / 123.91 USD per night) are large, modern and homey, with a traditional touch. The room is decorated with beautiful and artsy batik décor (batik is the art of Indonesian painting) on the wall behind the bed, combined with warm, mellow lighting. The comfortable bed will guarantee a positive mood and good night’s sleep.

The 433 rooms are very clean and have a balcony facing either the pool or the garden. If you come to Bali with kids or a larger group of people and want to stay near each other, adjoining rooms are available. The in-room amenities are also top-notch and include a large LED TV and many outlets to charge multiple electronic devices.

All bathrooms are large and have marble floors and walls. There are two separate rooms; one is for bathtub and the other one is for the vanity (with a sink) and the toilet. Free toiletries and plenty of clean towels are provided.

Delicious breakfast buffet with great options

The breakfast buffet, which is included in the room rate, is at Seasonal Taste Restaurant, and I think it is one of the best breakfast buffets in Bali. Regardless of where you’re from, you will get to enjoy your favourite cuisine, as the buffet has a many options such as Indonesian, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Indian, and Western foods.

It also has a large station for pastries, ice cream, and many kinds of fresh tropical fruits, including green oranges, a type of orange that grows in a tropical places like Bali. Green oranges have a sweet taste, with the absence of the typical sour taste. What do I like most about the buffet? Its juice station. Watch the attendant make juices and/or smoothies of your choice (you can even mix different kinds of fruits).

If you decide not to leave the hotel for lunch and dinner, the resort has other high quality eateries. Ikan Restaurant and Bar is a seaside restaurant open for dinner. The restaurant has different themes each night such as Kebab and Curry Night (Indian food buffet) and Surf & Turf Barbeque, which serves grilled beef and chicken.

Sunday brunch at Prego Italian Restaurant

If you stay at the resort over the weekends, don’t miss the Sunday brunch held at Prego Italian Restaurant from 11.30 AM to 3 PM, especially if you are travelling with kids. This Italian buffet serves popular Italian dishes such as risotto parmesan, pizza, pasta, and also specialty Italian dishes like arrosticini (skewered meat), and Tuscan marinated ribs (barbequed pork ribs) which are all prepared before your eyes!

Being more than just a regular buffet, this occasion will delight your kids not only by providing every kids’ favorite foods like crepes, cotton candy, and gelato (Italian ice cream, which is creamier and smoother than regular ice cream) in the buffet, but also many indoor and outdoor activities for them organised by the resort’s kids club team. After eating their meal, your kids can follow the team for fun activities, like a cooking class or tug of war (all activities are supervised by the team) at the restaurant’s large open playground. During this time, you can continue your Italian feast while watching your kids playing nearby.

Awesome pools

For those who love having fun in and around water, you and your family will be delighted by the resort’s impressive swimming pools (two adult pools and one children’s pool). Each pool is large and has a lot of loungers for guests to relax and unwind. Pools are surrounded by lush greenery. One swimming pool is filled with saltwater, which gives you the sensation of swimming in the ocean!

The children’s pool is equipped with an electric pump for guests to use to fill life vests or swimmies, and nothing will delight your kids more than sliding through the 12-meter-long (39.37 feet) water slide!

Attentive lifeguards are on duty at the pool at all times. They keep an eye on safety and are ready to help when needed. They can arrange aquatic activities such as pool volleyball, and do not hesitate to ask them to help you with your photo sessions in the pool!

Serene private beach

One big plus about the resort is that they have a peaceful, clean private beach right behind the hotel. This is particularly wonderful as many nearby beaches are too crowded. All guests can access the beach and its relatively calm water allows guests to swim or play. There are plenty of loungers and beds with umbrellas along the beach for you to cool off, and the gorgeous sunset is not to be missed.

Kid’s paradise

It’s a good idea to bring kids for a holiday in Bali, especially when you stay at the remarkable Westin Resort Nusa Dua. Not only do they manage a very good kids club (they have very good facilities and a trustworthy team that will ensure their fun and safety), but they also have a food and beverage program for children under 12, where they can go to any of the resort’s restaurants throughout the day and get free fruit juices! In addition to that, they can eat at Seasonal Taste Restaurant for the whole day for only 12 USD (160,306 IDR)!

From your arrival to departure, every staff member is smiling, engaging, and friendly. What more could you and your family expect from this resort? Stay here and you will be looking forward to your next trip to Bali!
