Built on a hill, the village of Dimitsana has a population of under a thousand people and is registered as a “traditional settlement”. Dimitsana is an old town, so old in fact that it dates back to ancient Greece when it was known as Teuthis. Over the course of history, the town has been important in major events, from the Trojan War to the Greek War of Independence where the local mills made ammunition giving the town the nickname; “the nation’s powder keg”.
