Ilha Porchat or Porchat Island is not a real island. It is an outcrop situated on the beach coast of Sao Paulo, the “Beach of Millionaires”, southwest of Sao Vicente Island. Whenever it is high tide, Porchat is isolated from the mainland of Sao Vicente which made it necessary for a bridge to be built to connect the two. The “island” got its name from its one of its previous owners, the Porchat family. They built a casino and plenty of summer houses on the island visited by high profile people of the region.
