This summer house is a real classic, just around the corner from the wonderful sand dunes of the town and within five minutes’ walk from Katwijk centre. A little further on, you will find the former Valkenburg Naval Air Base, which has been converted to host the musical, Soldier of Orange. The cottage itself is on the grounds of a larger house but has its own entrance and a nearby bakery offers fresh bread rolls each morning. The owner - who lives just 10 minutes away - can be contacted easily and the cottage has all the essentials, as well as cable TV and kitchen facilities.

A break by the sea in Katwijk will do you a great deal of good on a number of levels - from its bracing sea air and promenade walks to its mind-nourishing science museums, such as Corpus and Space Expo. While it may not be Holland’s most famous tourist attraction, don’t let the lack of fanfare put you off - there is a range of excellent accommodation and you won’t run out of things to do while here, either. The LA Times has referred to the “Soldier of Orange” as the Netherlands’ equivalent of “Hamilton” and it’s a show that you should really take the chance to experience.
