The village of Schoorl is small in size, but its influence on Dutch tourism belies its lack of landmass. Home to more than 25 campsites, it is a marvellous seaside destination close to the town of Bergen, and the presence in the village of two town hall buildings dating to the beginning of the 1600s is evidence of its long and fascinating history. The village is no more than five miles (8 km) long and a mile and a half (2.4 km) wide, meaning that it can be explored on foot. The presence of fine, unpretentious restaurants, such as De Rustende Jager, serving hearty and traditional local fare, makes it a charming and relaxing place to enjoy a typical Dutch holiday. Check out our list of the best Airbnb vacation rentals in Schoorl and book today!

We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) Superhost status, recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and amenities. 1. De Goudvissenkom (from USD 34)

The name of this accommodation translates as “The Goldfish Bowl”, but don’t worry, you won’t lack space while staying here. Yes, it’s a room in a larger house, but it’s highly spacious with a double bed and a TV. Couples travelling with a younger child will be pleased to know that the owners can also make a crib available if needed, and you’ll be a very short distance from Schoorl itself, among one of the largest “bulb areas” in the world–making this one of the most colourful places to visit if you come in Spring.

3. Detached cottage by the dunes (from USD 113)

This small chalet is beautifully furnished inside, and what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in heart. A very cosy place to stay, with all the essentials included–including wireless Internet and TV–the cottage is excellently served by public transport, while also being within easy walking distance of the town. If you are travelling with a pet, then that’s fine–the cottage is animal-friendly and there are countless places to take a dog for a walk, including to nearby Bergen or just in the charming rural surroundings.

4. Cosy Dutch cottage by the beach and woods (from USD 128)

This cottage takes the best of a bygone era–the feel of the decoration would not be out of place in the 1950s–and combines it with modern convenience in a way that will make you feel relaxed the moment you step through the door. From the comfortable living room you can look out onto the woods, and although the kitchen and bathroom are basic, they’re more than well-equipped. You’ll be staying in a self-contained flat, but the owners live in the same building and are at your service for tips on places to explore in Schoorl and beyond.

5. Cottage by the woods (from USD 86)

Though the setting is rustic, this holiday home is far from basic. You’re located close to the main house, where the owner lives with his wife, and are 15 minutes by car away from beach destinations such as Camperduin. This means you are the ideal combination of being far enough from the beach for it to be quiet, while close enough to make an impromptu trip a possibility. You’ll have three bedrooms and your own kitchen, and are just 800 metres (2,624.67 ft) from Schoorl’s famous Klimduin, the sand dune at the centre of the town.

6. New: romantic studio in the heart of Schoorl (from USD 79)

This charming atelier is perfect for a getaway. From the pellet wood stove in the studio to the private patio area, it’s custom-designed to be enjoyed and give a feeling of simple relaxation. There is no TV on the property, which is a conscious choice, although you can ask for one to be brought in if you feel you really must and you can also make use of Wi-Fi; but it’s preferred, and better for the relaxing feel of the place, if you just enjoy Schoorl, the atelier, and the many charms of the surrounding area. Simple meals can be prepared in the kitchenette, or you can try one of the village’s excellent restaurants instead.

7. Holiday home near the beach and Bergen

There is room enough for six people here, in a quiet holiday home that is located in Schoorl’s “Koningshof” residential area. The house is furnished with a light touch and designed above all to be relaxing, and you’ll appreciate the flower-filled garden which is banked by a couple of terrace areas. You’ll be within easy reach of the town of Bergen and the centre of Schoorl, and almost all of the house is at your disposal, including a section with a barbecue grill. There is a reception area, which is open every day, and also free Wi-Fi should you need it.

8. Beautiful house with character in coastal town

This 1920s-built house just outside Schoorl Village is absolutely charming in every way, from its high ceilings to the spacious kitchen, and there is enough room here for five visitors. Perhaps the high point is a lovely, sun-lit conservatory with a large dining table, a perfect place to sit around for meals that you can cook in that large kitchen. The owner lives in a studio built into the house, and can be contacted by phone or by walking over to see her, and the house is pet-friendly (with the proviso that there are no more than three dogs, and they are not allowed in the bedrooms).

10. Rob's cottage

This cottage could perhaps best be described as “cute”. It’s small, but you’ll fall in love with it the moment you see it. The living room and bedroom are in one studio section, while there is a separate small kitchenette with a two-ring hob and a microwave. The bathroom features a toilet and shower, and it’s all just three minutes’ walk from the charming centre of Schoorl. You'll appreciate Schoorl for sure, there's something for everyone

Far from being a drawback, the size of the village of Schoorl is a real selling point, making it a quiet and relaxed place to spend a holiday. With the coast and towns, such as Bergen and Alkmaar, in easy reach, it’s also a superb base for wider excursions and a stay in any of the local vacation rental properties will make for a fabulous holiday.
