With so many glamorous ways to part from your cash in Tokyo, there’s really no reason to spend more than need be on lodging – but who wants to stay in a run down, super tiny room with a cheapo bedspread and a vaguely tobacco tinged staleness to it? For a bit more money, consider upping your game at the Tokyu Stay Hotel in Shimbashi. It may be surprising just how more merriment a minor splash of cash can bring!
We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) Superhost status, recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and amenities. Standing apart with new construction and a fantastic location
Completed in the spring of 2014, the Tokyu Stay is a very new hotel for this part of Tokyo. It’s on a recently constructed boulevard that, it is said, will one day compete with the Champs-Élysées in grandeur. We can’t vouch for when that day will come, but it is, to be sure, quite convenient. The Ginza, Shimbashi, and Shiodome areas are all within easy walking distance. Shimbashi station is a mere five minute walk from the hotel, with a myriad of restaurants and bars between the two.
Loaded with conveniences, the well-designed room betrays its size (from USD 93)
There’s no way around it: The room is small, especially when viewed by people new to the super-packed Japanese city genre. Single rooms measure up at 14 to 15 sq. m., while doubles may pierce the 20 sq. m. mark. These are not the smallest rooms in Tokyo.
The room may be less-than-spacious, but it is so well equipped, and has a feeling of quality that so surpasses what you’d expect from this price range, that you will be unable to hold a grudge. There’s a washing machine/dryer combo, a microwave, nice big TV, fully kitted out toilet (it is Japan, after all), borderline luxuriant shower, and nice linens too.

A business hotel lobby lounge that’s worth something!
In the lobby, you’ll find a pleasant space to use the internet on provided laptops (free Wi-Fi also available throughout the hotel), or to be just be anachronistically analog and read a newspaper. There’s also a well-stocked are with multi-lingual tourism info. A nicely balanced, very solid buffet breakfast is available for 1,500 JPY (12 USD), but if you’re on a budget, there’s a convenience store around back where you could grab a coffee and a rice ball or bread item for around 250 JPY (2 USD), especially should you merely be in the market for something quick and light.
Gaze and be smug
Though views vary by room, a view such as the one above is quite common and the Tokyu Stay Shimbashi. Letting your eye wander down the soon to be Champs-Élysées of the East, your eye will be drawn to the also recently completed Toranomon Hills. It’s a beautiful, towering structure with restaurants, offices, and a hotel where which you would be spending at least triple what you are now. If you find yourself in the room during the day, you may be surprised just how bright an airy the room feels. This is not your average business hotel.
