Cuxhaven is not by any means Germany’s most famous town, nor its biggest tourist destination. Chances are, if you’re not from Germany, you may not have even heard of it. However, it’s a town on Germany’s North Sea coast with a beach and lots of opportunity for sea fishing. Areas such as Duhnen and Sahlenburg are attractive tourist spots which bring in visitors from around Germany and from beyond. If you’re looking for a quiet break with fresh sea air and a tourist-friendly atmosphere, Cuxhaven is perfect for you.

Cuxhaven itself has a population of around 52,000 people, making it smaller and quieter than the average city, but just large enough to be able to support a thriving tourist industry. In short, if you’re looking for a quiet break in a quiet, quintessentially European coastal town with charming accommodation, then Cuxhaven is hard to beat. Here are the best hotels and vacation rentals in the area!

We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) Superhost status, recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and amenities. The image galleries get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on April 04, 2024.

2. Hotel Deichvoigt: simplicity and quality (from USD 79)

The Deichvoigt doesn’t make any particularly bold claims about what it can offer; it’s a quite basic hotel by some standards. It just so happens that everything it does, it does so excellently. Food here is simple but first-rate, and the rooms are not hugely high-tech but are spacious and comfortable. All of this comes for a price that is well below what you’ll pay in most hotels, and places you close to Ahoi Erlebnisbad - where you can partake of relaxing wellness treatments.

The Hotel Stadt is located in the Lotsenviertel area of Cuxhaven, where the ferry terminal is to be found. That’s an excellent position to be in if you want to take a few day trips by sea while here, and the option of a jaunt to Helgoland from here is one reason to pick this hotel. Another is the relaxed, family atmosphere you’ll find while staying here: the hotel is family-run, and it shows in the attention the guests are shown.

Welcoming, wonderful Cuxhaven: accommodations of all sorts, for all pockets!

With such a diversity of types of accommodations, Cuxhaven does have something to offer every traveller. Its North Sea coast location can make it feel not unlike a Scandinavian holiday, and the cosy practicality of the accommodations does little to change that way of thinking. However, you’re certainly in Germany - a delightful, untapped part of it, but Germany nonetheless.
