Weymouth, on the South Coast of England, is a perfect place to head to escape the everyday stresses. While there are plenty of opportunities to cut loose and have fun, this is a town that really comes into its own if you’re someone who enjoys a long walk amid stunning scenery. Weymouth’s position on the Jurassic Coast – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – makes for some epic views and interesting hikes. Its harbour hosts some wonderful pleasure cruises, and you can charter a yacht to experience that beautiful coastal vista from another angle. Day trips to nearby Bournemouth and Poole are also worth your time, but you’ll find plenty to keep you occupied right here. Additionally, with a range of guest houses and hotels to choose from, you can be sure of a pleasant, relaxing break.

1. Four Seasons Guesthouse: perfect for couples (from USD 108)

A major point to note about the South Coast of England is the proliferation of excellent guesthouses. The Four Seasons is a particularly fine example of this, with couples who stayed there rating it as one of the best around. A particular highlight is the full English breakfast served every morning in the dining room with a view over the bay – it’s hard to imagine a better start to any day!

2. Brierley Guesthouse: a relaxing stay (from USD 122)

Brierley Guesthouse really fits the description of a home away from home, with each room containing a flat screen TV and DVD player – so if the weather isn’t clement enough for a coastal walk, you can while away a few hours in perfect comfort. Breakfast options include British or Irish-style cooked breakfasts as well as vegan and gluten-free, so you’re catered for whatever your requirement. The guesthouse is also considered to be among the best-value options in Weymouth.

Inside, Seabreeze is a highly modern holiday accommodation, with satellite TV and a well-served kitchen. There are also plenty of entertainment options such as games and a range of paperbacks to read. It’s also got a history, though. Built in 1723, purportedly by a shipping merchant for his mistress, it stands on the former site of a monastery according to local historians. One thing is for sure: whether the charming open-plan interior, or its coastal setting, you will always have something pleasant to look at.

6. Wadham Guesthouse: one for the artists (from 97 USD (72 GBP))

Wadham Guesthouse is located perfectly for trips to see that and other enriching stops such as Leighton Art Gallery and the Deep Sea Experience. If you want a bit of a duvet day, then you can stay in your room and enjoy satellite TV and coffee/tea making facilities.

7. Apartment with a sea view (from USD 143)

This stylish apartment comprises of a plush living area and an ensuite bathroom, along with a magical view of the Dorset coastline. That may be why the owner has named it “Perfect View”, and he’s not wrong. Recently refurbished, the apartment doesn’t currently have cooking facilities; however, that’s all the more reason to pop into Weymouth Town and shop for a picnic that you can enjoy while looking out over the beach, or try one of the many excellent fish and chip shops in the area.
