Whatever brings you to Las Vegas, be it a bachelor party, a convention, a Zen retreat, or just a general festival of debauchery, you’re going to need to choose a hotel that is just right on spaciousness, amenities, location, and of course budget. If you are a big fan of taking the “middle road,” Treasure Island just may indeed be an island of treasures. But if you’re coming to Las Vegas on a Zen retreat, you may want to review your sect.

Behold!

hotel view from the strip

With almost 2,900 rooms under one roof, it’s going to be a big roof! Treasure Island, also known as simply “TI,” spreads out in three directions, but the most flattering view is most certainly how it looks from The Strip, which is the main drag along which Las Vegas’s biggest and brightest hotels crowd. TI is more affordable than many of the hotels in this convenient “mid-strip” location, often significantly so. Having been completed in 1993, during the now dead-and-buried “Las Vegas for families” fad, the hotel initially featured a more whimsical pirate theme, with an arcade and a kid-friendly pirate show out front. In its current incarnation, TI is a place best enjoyed sans kiddies.

Restaurant, revelry, and rodeo riders

mechanical bull

You won’t go hungry at TI, what with its requisite buffet, steakhouse, and coffee shop. All are imminently competent, but far from being a category redefining experience. If you experience a spate of bad luck at the giant, first floor casino (it is Vegas after all), stopping by for a drink or two at the Breeze Bar would not be the worst thing you could do. The people watching is free, and the drinks aren’t so badly priced either. However, for a real treat, head to Gilley’s for some down-home barbecue served up in massive portions. Afterwards, fight the food coma and mosey on over to the attached country western bar. LIve music, square dancing, and even mechanical bull riding serve up more excitement than you can shake a rib bone at.

Well appointed rooms bring you solace

With all the activity about you in Las Vegas, it’s nice to come back to a quiet, well laid out room. The beds are particularly comfortable, and there is ample surrounding space to spread out. Many rooms have excellent views of The Strip as well, so do try to request one at check-in. All rooms boast mini refrigerators, irons, a safe (for your winnings, of course), and cable TV.

Bathrooms fit for a winner

Bathrooms are not palatial, but they are very nice nonetheless, with spacious showers and sink areas. Shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and plenty of towels are provided. You will find the quality of everything to be decidedly middle of the road, which is about what you should expect for the price you are paying. What does middle of the road mean? Towels that are not so thin that you anger, but not so nice that you wish you had them at home.

Your "just right" hotel in the heart of Las Vegas

You’ve got it all at TI, but none of it will be opulent. The convenience is hard to beat, the rooms nice, the food pretty good, and the parking free. Now be a good guest and get gambling!
