Asakusa

Asakusa is a district in Tokyo Metropolis. Asakusa is mostly famous for its Buddhist temple, Senso-ji, and the nostalgic feeling the town provides with cafes from the "good old days," vintage-style restaurants, and Japanese style bars. When you visit Asakusa, you feel like you are back to 18th and 19th century Japan.

The historical town of Asakusa provides many locations perfect for a good picture. The gigantic gate of Senso-ji, the Kaminarimon, is a popular place for any visitor to take a good picture of their Japanese adventure. The street leading from the Kaminarimon to Senso-ji is filled with many cute souvenir stores and yummy Japanese snack vendors which would also be colorful for your pictures. Besides from Senso-ji, you can find Japan’s oldest theme park, Hanayashiki, located right by the temple. Its intimate setting makes a perfect place to visit if you are traveling with children.

In addition, there are many great festivals (or "matsuri" in Japanese) which take place in Asakusa. One of the best-known is Sanja Matsuri, which is held for 3 days in May, and attracts 1.5 to 2 million people: it is considered as one of the wildest and largest festivals in Tokyo.
