Metropolitan by Como

Housed in a mid-century former YMCA building, the Metropolitan by Como Bangkok is achingly cool. Staff wear black uniforms designed by famed Japanese fashion guru Yohji Yamamoto, there is a Michelin-rated Thai restaurant headed by an Australian-born chef, and the styling in rooms is pared down modern luxury with just the right hint of Thai elegance.

All of this is thanks to the Como brand owner and founder, Singapore-born Christina Ong, who also founded the hotel’s spa brand, Como Shamballa (which also makes the hotel’s incredible amenities). Como's modern Thai restaurant, Nahm, is probably more famous than the hotel, and continues to add awards and accolades.

If you have several days to spend in Bangkok, we would recommend splitting your stay between the hip and cool Metropolitan and the stately and elegant Sukothai, a nearby resort hotel sprawled out over six lush acres and built to resemble a 13-century Thai village.

The hotel is tucked down a small alley off of the Sathorn Road (one of Bangkok’s busiest) and is quite distant from the nearest Sky Train stop and any local attractions. You’ll need to hop a cab basically anywhere, unless you want to walk in the Bangkok heat to the nearest Sky Train stop (Lumphini Park).
