Rosehead was the first name given to the city of Perry in Taylor County, Florida. Rosehead became Perrytown in the late 19th century until Perry was chosen as the city’s name in honor of the fourth governor of the state. With its busy downtown a few blocks from U.S. Highways 19 and 98, Perry is a great spot to stop over for long trips along Nature Coast. However, there are plenty of reasons to stay for a few days in the “Tree Capital of the South,” including freshwater springs, Nature Coast hunting, a restored train station from the steam locomotive era, and Big Bend Brewfest, a festival held in early March. You will also find Forest Capital Museum State Park in the city. Are you planning a weekend joyride or a paddling adventure? Check out the best things to do in Perry, Florida.

Veteran’s Memorial Park is one of 15 city-maintained parks in Perry. The names of 924 Taylor County veterans are presented venerably on 11 walls, and visitors are greeted with the eternal flame built from white marble. The park features black granite monuments for the two World Wars, Vietnam War, Korean War, and War on Terror. It is a tribute to the veterans of Taylor County, and it was funded and built by veterans themselves. The city and county government offered funding support to complete the brick courtyard, fountains, flag poles, Walls of Remembrance, museum, and a place dedicated to surplus military equipment. Residents are welcome to inform the committee and apply the names of loved ones in the service who were lost in wars and conflicts.
