1. Put your dancing shoes on at Level 22

Malta is a well known place for any party goer. Despite its small size, the island is home to many nightclubs and a large number of restaurants and bars are turning their space into improvised nightclubs during the weekend. Blame it on the island life or the contagious love for a good party by the Maltese, but it is very tempting to put on your dancing shoes and enjoy yourself when in Malta.

Level 22 is the most infamous club of the island and for good reason! Located in St. Julians, Level 22 offers panoramic views over Malta in a stylish environment. The interior has been designed by Maltese designer Pippa Toledo, featuring the latest design trends from New York, London, Paris, and Madrid. The music is varied from the 80’s, 90’s, and modern electro and house. The club regularly hosts international DJs.

Be aware, however, that despite the ‘non smoking’ policy, customers are allowed to smoke inside the premises and this might be disturbing for non-smokers.

2. Go on a wine degustation at Trabuxu

Trabuxu is a local spot overlooking a bistro, wine bar, and a living space. The wine bar focuses, as its name implies, on serving you the best wines from their 400 year old stone vaulted cellar. A cozy and intimate space, this wine bar offers a wide range of cheese to accompany your wine as well as a smaller selection of meat and salumi. The team at Trabuxu does not only satisfy themselves with serving you some of the finest wines, but hand pick each of the cheeses, which can be bought by the gram. Due to the cheese seasonality, the offering can vary during the year. All orders are accompanied by fresh Maltese bread, water crackers, and a selection of chutneys and jams. Bookings are recommended, especially on Friday and Saturday nights to avoid disappointment.

3. Try the traditional Maltese Dinner

Vegetarians and vegans might want to skip the below paragraph…

The national dish in Malta is stuffat tal-fenek or in other words… rabbit stew! This delicacy has been around since the Knights of St. John (the builders of Malta after they nearly lost the islands to the Ottoman Turks in the Great Siege of 1565) and contributes to Malta’s heritage. This dish is extremely popular amongst locals but also a favourite for tourists and foreigners. The traditional recipe uses only local homegrown ingredients, vegetables, and herbs. The different flavours of the ingredients in the stew compliment each other wonderfully and create a warm dish like no other.

1743 restaurant is the known for its special rabbit stew. This old farmhouse was once a milling factory to grind grain to flour for daily bread and is over four hundred years old. Staff wear the traditional costumes and the restaurant prides itself in serving only traditional dishes while most restaurants on the island promote international influences. The menu is based on a belief that “patience, passion, and slow roasting make one warm hearty meal” which sets you up for the evening.

I can hear you saying “Going to a magic show, really? that’s just for kids!” I dare you to go to the Chamber of Mysteries and not enjoy yourself; this is simply impossible!

The Chamber of Mysteries is the key for a fun and entertaining evening. The venue is concealed within the 1743 Razzett L–Antik, a traditional farmhouse and former milling factory is said to be home of some middle aged wizards who used the thick walls of the venue to hide their secrets from the outside world.

Be ready for levitation, amusing floating objects, and mind boggling predictions topped with mind-reading acts!

5. Go night diving!

All certified divers will tell you: night underwater life is unique, fascinating, and absolutely different from the underwater life you experience during the day. All macro lovers will be delighted with schools of transparent shrimps, conger and moray eels, octopus, cuttle fish, squid, and also slipper lobsters during some months of the year.

Malta has beautiful shallow diving spots which are perfect for first timers or if you are not fully confident in a black underwater environment. Plenty of dive centers are available on the island, but we recommend Aquatica Diving center in St. Paul’s Bay for their professionalism and team of trained instructors.
