3. Bike the trail along Barge Canal
Following the route of the Erie Canal and the NYS Barge Canal, this popular biking trail follows the old tow paths for parts of the journey. Parts of the original canal date back more than 200 years, though the enlarged Barge Canal came a century later and splits from Erie Canal to the west of the town of Rome, before snaking its way all the way to Oneida Lake through the farming countryside. Those feeling adventurous can actually ride almost as far as 36 miles (58 km, one way) from one end to the other, but remember to leave enough energy in your legs to make the return journey. 4. Stop by the historical Utica Marina

Another magnificent example of fine period architecture now. In actuality, two parks - the F.T. and T. R. - Proctor Park is considered one of the finest open spaces in the city.
