One of the must-try traditional delicacies of Thailand is the Golden Thread Egg, which is primarily served at weddings, festivals, or religious events.

Locally known as Khanom Foi Thong, its name comes from its golden-colored, thread-like appearance. It’s made by separating the egg whites from the yolks, which are combined with sugar and flour to form a flowy batter. Once the batter is ready, it’s poured through a special funnel with tiny holes. The resulting golden threads are fried until they are golden and crispy.

2. Hoy Tod


Hoy Tod is a popular street food in Thailand that is eaten more among locals than it’s close cousin: Pad Thai. Hoy Tod is usually served with oysters and/or mussels and instead of condiments, it is usually served with a sweet chilli sauce and lots of green onions. As for the starch, instead of noodles, you get a mix of egg and batter similar to an omelette. Locals like it served either gooey, crispy or crunchy.

3. Tod Mun Pla Krai


Tod Mun Pla Krai are known in English as fish cakes. The fish cake is made by kneading pounded fish and then mixing it with curry paste. After the kneading and mixing, it is then formed into a little “cake” (which is really more of a disk shape) before deep frying. It’s a great crunchy little snack that’s often served alongside a dipping sauce.

4. Moo Ping


Moo Ping is one of those things you can find all over the world in different variations. Meat on a skewer is probably one of the world’s most notable dishes and so many different cultures have their own variation on the simple goodness of greasy meat on a stick. Moo Ping is pork served on a skewer and marinated with coriander root, pepper and garlic then grilled over charcoal. It’s usually served alongside a portion of sticky rice and will run customers about 50 cents USD.

5. Chocolate and banana roti


Chocolate and banana roti is typically served as a dessert type food and is definitely delicious even for those with picky tastes. The thin roti is filled with banana and egg and makes for a nice and crispy exterior. Powdered sugar is then sprinkled on it and served alongside a chocolate dipping sauce or chocolate syrup poured over it.

6. Khanom Bueang


Khanom Bueang is said to be an ancient food and is more commonly known in English as crispy pancakes or Thai crepes. The food is again, a popular option among street vendors.
