10 Yummy Places To Eat In Norfolk, Virginia

Norfolk, Virginia has some great places to eat. Finding a great place to eat really isn’t too hard. There may be a lot of places to choose from but no one can go wrong with fresh seafood or a friendly diner. Here are some fantastic restaurants that everyone in the traveling group will enjoy.

1. No Frill Bar and Grill




Originally opened in 1987 on Tidewater Drive, the owners decided to make a second restaurant located near Virginia Beach in 2005 because of their success. The food is very American here, with delicious home cut French fries and cheeseburgers with some great twists. What they also serve though is some awesome seafood. There are a lot of different fish dishes here, like tilapia, haddock, salmon, shrimp, flounder, and halibut, among others.

2. Shiptown




Shiptown is essentially a seafood restaurant that is open for dinner only. They open at five in the evening and depending on the day are open until nine or ten. The restaurant is an old-school oyster bar, which means they strive to serve the freshest food available. They get daily deliveries of the seafood and other ingredients in order to keep up with their guests. They have homemade hot dogs, Koji-aged Ribeye, blackened shrimp salads, pan-seared rockfish, and special sea scallops with a miso carrot puree over them. Very unique dishes for a unique restaurant.

3. Istanbul Gyro & Kebob



It may sound odd for a Turkish restaurant to be in Norfolk, but it’s actually a really great place to have a bite to eat. When guests walk up to the restaurant, they can smell the aromas that are within the small building. Upon entering, the spits of lamb and beef are visible to those at the front door. Guests can see the chefs slicing meat off the spits and placing it on the grill to make sure it’s all hot before placing it on a plate.

4. Handsome Biscuit




There is some really yummy food at the Handsome Biscuit, but sometimes the descriptions on the menu are not the best way to see if that dish is the right one. Which is why the staff is super friendly and willing to give their opinions of the dishes before guests place their orders. Most likely, no one will be disappointed with what they order, though.

5. Legrand Kitchen




This little diner is one of the finer restaurants in Norfolk. It’s a small place, only 28 seats, but the food is unique and delicious. Because they rely on local food and farmers, their menu changes as the seasons change, to keep up with the fresh produce that the farmers grow. Their dishes to tend to be kind of fancy, so this may not be the place for everyone, but the food really is yummy and different than anything anyone will have tasted before.

6. Wicker's Crab Pot Seafood



Now Wicker’s Crab Pot Seafood restaurant is not exactly in Norfolk but it’s not too far away from the area. Here is where visitors of Norfolk can experience a slew of different types of crab and crab recipes. Wicker’s Crab Pot has all you can eat blue crab feasts quite often, which makes people who love blue crab very happy. The shrimp dishes are pretty bangin’ too, so be sure to check them out if shrimp is a favorite.

7. The Pita Pit

The Pita Pit is a great place for a light lunch. This is actually a food truck that is near the mall, and it is always open. They have a variety of meats, cheeses, fresh veggies and sauces for each pita that they make. It’s like a homemade hoagie but it is in a pita shell, so it sticks together and doesn’t fall apart as easily. It’s fun to make a sandwich with 100 possibilities and it’s a healthy meal.

8. The Dirty Buffalo



The Dirty Buffalo may sound like a bad name for a restaurant but they actually have really good food, particularly the chicken wings. They have a different flavor of wings on special every week. A popular flavor is bourbon-aki glaze which is a yummy teriyaki glaze made with bourbon. The French toast in the morning also has some great flavors so stop in for breakfast if dinner is already decided elsewhere.

9. Bluewater Seafood


Bluewater Seafood is a fresh fish market and restaurant. A lot of people like to stop here for the freshest fish around. This is the best place to eat all you can eat shrimp for shrimp lovers. A lot of the recipes do tend to be a bit on the spicier side since the restaurant is Cajun and Creole.

10. Shipwreck Sally's




Cute little sandwiches fill the plates at Shipwreck Sally’s. Homemade chicken salad, taco sliders, and even soups for breakfast and dinner. Their breakfast menu is just as special with egg sandwiches on fresh croissants and freshly cut fruit. The workers are all very friendly here, which makes the trip to Shipwreck Sally’s so much more enjoyable.

Food really is a great way to experience Norfolk

There is so much seafood in Norfolk since it is so close to the ocean for easy fishing. But there are also some great restaurants that don’t serve much seafood at all, like The Handsome Biscuit.
