Located roughly 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) northwest of Hammamet, Pupput (Souk el-Abiod) is a Roman archaeological site worth visiting while being around the area. 6. The Punic Ruins of Kerkouane
One of the top attractions for history lovers in the area, the site of Kerkouane is thought to have been settled by the Phoenicians from the 6th-century BC, long before the well-known Carthage area. Razed to the ground by the Romans during the Third Punic War, this village of fishermen and dyers has never been rebuilt (remaining preserved and intact through the ages). Here, you’ll contemplate some great testimonies of streets and foundations of ancient buildings.
