1. Eighteen Peaks Mountain Park
This lunar-shaped park in the East District has 18 shallow peaks, all of which are filled with thick forests and colorful flowers. You can go for a stroll or head to one of the pavilions to enjoy the scenery and the lovely fragrance. Eighteen Peaks Mountain Park also houses over 24 Guanyin statues made from stone. There’s a flower festival held every March, and it’s the best time to see peaches, apricots, camellias, azaleas, and more.

2. East Gate
Four brick and stone gates were built in 1827, but three of them were torn down in 1902 to make way for the construction of the road. The East Gate in Zhongzhen Road is the only one left standing, and it’s now the city’s most beloved historical landmark. Revisit the past as you enter the arched granite walkway and admire the concrete design of the upper half of the gate. Outside, there’s a stone stela that provides information about the city’s ancient period.

3. Hsinchu City God Temple
This structure in Zhongshan Road is dedicated to the City God, who is believed to be the protector of the metropolis and the one who decides the fate of those who passed away. Hsinchu City God Temple is also regarded as the highest ranking City God Temple in the country. Visit this legendary site and be fascinated not only by the well-preserved Buddhist architecture but also the deity sculptures and colorful wall paintings. The 29th of November on the Lunar Calendar is the birthday of the City God, and it’s where you can witness a display of firecrackers and a traditional parade.
Outside of the temple is a night market dating back to the Japanese Colonial period. After exploring the temple, you can visit the food stalls for a chance to try some of the most delicious dishes such as pork meatballs, spring rolls, oyster omelet, rice vermicelli, and cuttlefish thick soup.

4. Glass Museum
This building used to be the residence of Japanese royal members and the offices of different Taiwanese government agencies, but now it’s the location of the first glass-themed museum in the country. Marvel at the European-style architecture of the museum and see its wide collection of intricate glass artworks. Apart from the exhibitions, there are also areas where you can learn how to make your own masterpiece. The Glass Museum is located in Dongda Road, and it’s perfect for the whole family.

5. Image Museum
It was an air-conditioned theatre that showed movies, concerts, and operas, but in 1991, it closed down due to the rise of video. In May of 2000, it was turned into a museum that aims to bring back the magic of the theatre and promote Taiwanese films. The Image Museum, which is between the East Gate and the Hsinchu Municipal Government Hall, will enthrall you with its unique combination of Roman and Arabian architecture. Inside, you can watch art or classical films and see the many cinema-related exhibits. Film lovers will certainly learn a lot here.

6. 17 kilometer / 10.6 mile coastline scenic area
Hsinchu’s coastline from Nankang to Nanliao used to be disorganized, but thanks to the efforts of the government, it’s now home to some of the city’s best scenic spots. Let the attractions of the 17 kilometer (10.6 mile) coastline scenic area give you fun-filled moments. At Seaview Park, you can just relax on the grass and enjoy the ocean view. It’s also famous for its windsocks, which were given by the city of Okayama in Japan.
The Mangrove Park is the first eco-park in Hsinchu, and apart from its beautiful trees, it also has rock climbing and sand carving areas. Another highlight of the park is the display of paintings from local artists. When you reach Nangang Bird Watching Area, prepare to be astounded by the sight of herons, sparrows, bitterns, and many other feathered animals. The camouflaged screen makes it easier for you to see all the migratory birds. You can also rent a bike for around 5 USD to explore the other scenic trails.

7. Hukou Old Street
This 300 meter (984 foot) long street in Hsinchu County will take you back to the Japanese Colonial era. Go for a walk on Hukou Old Street and see over 200 red brick buildings with carvings of dragons, cranes, and deer. The structures were built in the 1920’s, and they retain their original look. There are also restaurants where you can try out delicious Hakka dishes. The tranquil atmosphere will make your visit even more memorable.

8. Hsinchu Science Park
Many consider Hsinchu Science Park, on Xin’an Road, as the most popular attraction in the city. The park focuses on semi-conductors, optoelectronics, and telecommunication, and it’s also the location of the National Chiao Tung and the National Tsinghua Universities, two of Taiwan’s most prestigious academic institutions. Visit this site to see all of the high-tech buildings and the impressive man-made lake. Along the lake, you can go for a relaxing stroll and enjoy the sunset. 9. Leofoo Village Theme Park
Leofoo Village is located in Gunaxi Township, and it’s one of the most famous theme parks in Taiwan. It has four sections, all of which are sure to give you and your family a great time. The South Pacific is where you can ride some of the country’s biggest roller coasters. You will surely love the view of Guanxi area from the top. 10. THSR Hsinchu Station
Even if you’re not riding the train, you will still have a memorable time at THSR Hsinchu Station on Koatie Si Road. It won the 2006 Award of Taiwan Architecture, thanks to its brilliant combination of modern and ancient design. The station is inspired by Hakka structures, and it’s equipped with wafers and semiconductors. Take photos of the intricate features of the building and head to the exhibition center to learn more about the city’s transportation system.
