Health and cleanliness guidelines are fully implemented
From the moment you walk into the lobby of Doubletree by Hilton in Decatur, Alabama, you know that they are seriously committed to keeping their guests safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic. Plexiglass protection, masked staff members, social distance markers and hand sanitizer are implemented. Posted elevator etiquette recommends no more than two people inside at one time and urges the use of the stairs when possible.
A sticker is placed on the door frame of the guestrooms that have been sanitized, and Hilton has partnered with the Lysol company for products to remove germs and provide important cleaning. All touched surfaces are wiped down between visitors, including handles, knobs, climate control panels, remote controls, lamps and light switches. Previous bed coverings have been replaced with spreads that are washed after each guest. As an extra precaution, a pack of Lysol wipes is in the room so that guests may take their own measures for safety. All of these steps create an added level of assurance for guests.
Comfortably-appointed guest rooms
Hilton’s Sweet Dreams bedding is a welcome delight. Smooth sheets, great mattresses and amazing pillows are wonderful to sink into after a long day of travel or work. The thoughtful and well-placed number of electrical outlets and USB ports have become increasingly important. A work station with complimentary WiFi, ergonomic chair and lamp is helpful, along with the coffeemaker. A microwave, small refrigerator, personal safe, iron, ironing board, individual temperature control, chaise lounge and flatscreen television provide many of the comforts of home.

Bathroom with premium toiletries
Crabtree and Evelyn shampoo, conditioner, soap, body wash and body lotion are provided, along with makeup remover wipes and mouthwash. Plenty of fluffy towels and a hair dryer await guests, and convenient handrails help to ensure safety when showering.
Hotel-wide amenities
Complimentary parking is available, along with a fitness room and an indoor/outdoor swimming pool. A large ballroom and a number of meeting rooms can be found on the lower floor. The decor in the common areas is pleasant and very well-done. The staff also deserves recognition for exceptional friendliness and helpfulness.
On-site restaurant serves breakfast and dinner
Twist Bar and Grill is presently offering a limited menu for breakfast and dinner, but the prices are very reasonable, and the menu items I sampled were excellent. For dinner, you can order a steak, chicken, quesadilla, Cobb salad or a burger without ever leaving the hotel premises, and a full breakfast is offered for 8 USD or less.

Doubletree Hilton adds a special touch that likely pushes it over the top when people are choosing their overnight lodging. The warm, chocolate chip cookies with oats and walnuts are fabulous. You WILL want more than one.

It is also only a few blocks from Decatur’s historic district and the great shopping on Bank Street and Second Avenue. Five minutes away is the fabulous new Cook Museum of Natural Science, the Princess Theatre and upscale restaurants, such as Simp McGhee’s and The RailYard. Between the location, the remarkable measures in place for sanitation, the comfort of the rooms and the cookies, it is an exceptional place to spend the night.
