Bangalore is India’s ‘Silicon Valley’ when it comes to the IT sector, and ‘Garden City’ when green spaces come into play. But there is much more to this buzzing metropolis than these monikers. With its diverse landscape encompassing lush forests, lakes and rocky mountains, there are a plethora of possibilities for the adventurous travelers. Besides, the more gentle outdoor activities like camping, cycling, and wildlife tour, it is possible to indulge in several thrilling adventure pursuits in Bangalore, from white water rafting to paragliding and rock climbing. Here are some of the exciting things to do in and around Bangalore, India, for outdoor enthusiasts.
1. Go trekking (from USD 14.0)
With an abundance of vegetation, grasslands and rugged mountains, it’s no surprise there are numerous excellent places to go trekking in and around Bangalore. You can trek for as little as two hours or as long as one day (or more), with varying levels of difficulty. The easiest are Nandi Hills, Makalidurga hill fort and Madhugiri, while the more challenging treks are Skandagiri hills, Kunti Betta and Anthargange because of their length and fewer climbing aids. For a remarkable trekking experience - Savandurga, which is one of the largest monoliths in Asia - is perhaps the first choice. The trek to and from the hill is moderately difficult - via rugged terrain with rocky faces and no support - but the amazing view from the top of the monolith makes it worthwhile.

You can reach the caves via trekking, and the journey will take you past the thorny shrubs. Some of the caves are wide, while others are narrow and small - you might well have to crawl your way out. While you’re here, make sure to visit the ancient Kashi Vishwanath temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The highlight of the temple is a spring emerged out of a rock - it flows throughout the year and is considered to be sacred by the locals. If you want to take things up a notch, go for rock climbing.
