Close to the heart of Chiang Rai, yet in a peaceful and quiet location, Baan Bua Guest House is a top place to stay if you’re being careful with your travel budget. The basic but affordable rooms provide a great base for exploring Chiang Rai from.

Chiang Rai is a historical city in Northern Thailand. A former capital of the Lanna Kingdom, it is a popular destination today for visitors who want some great hill trekking experiences away from the crowds of neighbouring Chiang Mai. Headline attractions include the spectacular White Temple (Wat Rong Khun) and the Black House (Baan Dam). In addition to various other temples and museums, you can easily take trips to the province’s hot springs, the border markets at Mae Sai, and the Golden Triangle – the northern part of Chiang Rai province where Thailand, Laos, and Burma / Myanmar meet.

Enjoy great prices and a peaceful vibe at Chiang Rai’s Baan Bua Guest House.

Rooms at great prices with decent standards of comfort

Baan Bua Guest House has just 17 rooms in total, providing a more intimate and quieter stay. All rooms open directly onto the path alongside the gardens, meaning that there are no stairs for you to have to climb at the end of your day’s adventures. Mosquito screens at the windows help to keep creepy crawlies at bay.

The rooms might be basically furnished, but they are clean and have private bathrooms with hot water showers. You’ll find ample space to store your belongings in the wardrobe, and you can relax at the indoor seating area. Each room also has its own seating area directly outside the door.

There are single and double rooms (with either a double bed or two single beds) with electric fans to keep the air moving and to keep you cool. The nightly prices are 350 THB (approximately 9.90 USD) and 450 THB (approximately 12.60 USD) respectively.

If the heat keeps you awake at night, there are also double rooms with air-conditioning. These cost 550 THB (approximately 15.50 USD) for a night’s stay.

Great location in a residential area close to the heart of the city

Baan Bua Guest House enjoys a great location in a quiet residential area, but just a short walk from the centre of Chiang Rai. This means you get the benefit of staying somewhere quiet with a local vibe, but can easily reach an array of places of interest.

There are several eateries just a couple of minutes’ walk from the guest house, and Chiang Rai’s bus station can be reached in around ten minutes by foot. It will also take around ten minutes to walk to Chiang Rai’s day and evening markets, ideal for picking up local fare such as khao soi (a northern noodle curry), kaeng khanun (spicy curry soup with jackfruit), and naem (fermented sausage). If you visit in the rainy season (May - October) and are feeling brave, you could also try e huak – toasted tadpoles wrapped in a banana leaf!

Enjoy exploring the city by day, and then retreat back to a tranquil haven for the night.

A major highlight of Baan Bua Guest House is its large and lush garden. Stone tables and chairs are spread throughout the attractive garden, giving you a great place to relax in the sun on lazy days, or enjoy a chilled out evening outdoors. Wear plenty of mosquito repellent though! You can observe an interesting assortment of insects, birds, and butterflies, all drawn to the colourful flowers and leafy plants.

Free Wi-Fi internet access is available, although this can only be accessed from the garden. Rooms closer to the beginning of the block may get a good signal inside the room, but don’t count on it.

The friendly members of staff can assist with booking a variety of trips, such as hill tribe treks, and transportation. You can rent bicycles from the guest house – see more of Chiang Rai when you’ve got wheels! Baan Bua Guest House also has free onsite car-parking.

Dine on Thai and international dishes at the onsite restaurant

A small onsite restaurant serves Thai and international fare, and you can dine in the pleasant garden with nature all around. Perhaps start your day with a tasty banana pancake, eggs on toast, or a juicy bowl of fruit salad? Whilst breakfast is not included in the room rate, the prices are competitive. Tuck into fried rice, sandwiches, and other meals throughout the day.

Book your stay at Baan Bua Guest House and discover the many delights of Chiang Rai.
