Now this may be the first time that you’ve heard about Calistoga so let’s give you a quick introduction before we dive into our number one reason for visiting. Set in the heart of Napa Valley this small city is often overlooked from the traveling maps and is instead buried beneath the weight of its infamous next door neighbors: St Helena and Napa. Obviously, we all know that the Napa Valley region is world renowned for its wine production, but did you know that in this somewhat quiet town another thing is brewing; hot springs. So, grab your glass of Napa Valley wine and let’s take a look at the top 8 hot springs in Calistoga.
1. Calistoga Golden Haven Hot Springs Spa
Specializing in ‘couples’ treatments the facilities include hot springs and mud baths alongside massage services and full body treatments. The pure, natural mineral water from the geothermal aquifer runs from underneath the spa into the rooms direct for treatment and to warm the mud baths. In the hot springs section of the spa you can choose to have an aromatic mineral bath which includes bath salts to exfoliate and soothe the skin or you could choose to simply enjoy the hot springs pool and hot tubs, which are available to use all day.
If you want the full experience we recommend taking part in the mud bath experience where, for up to twenty minutes, you’ll be emerged in the warmed mud to relax muscles - don’t worry about overheating you’ll be regularly given cooling forehead pads and a cooling face mask (which also smells yummy and covers the sulphur smell). Then you’ll move onto the mineral hot spring bath to purify pores and finally a lemongrass and eucalyptus body wrap to soothe your mind and soul.

2. Calistoga Spa Hot Springs
Not only does this spa offer all of the traditional services you would expect, it also goes the extra mile to specialize in Chromotherapy which uses colors to adjust body vibrations to frequencies that result in health and harmony. At the heart of the spa is their four, not one, but four geothermal mineral pools!
Again you can choose to relax in these, or include other services such as massages and the volcanic ash mud baths. One of our favorite features about this spa has to be the glass-rock fire pit in the pool area. The location, as of 2017 has been renovated and so they have also updated their specials with a ‘girls’ getaway’ package that includes the mud bath, a 60 minute Swedish massage alongside some freebies and use of other facilities. Looks great to us!

3. Spa Solage
Editor's Note: There's no photo available at the time of writing
This beautiful ecologically aware spa offers new twists on the traditional mineral water pools and mud bath treatments in Calistoga. Their Mud Slider treatment has three parts which focus on “the mud”, “the water” and “rest”. The mud and geothermal pool at this spa have a luxurious private feel which is something to perfectly enjoy and we love the end twist which sees you relaxing in an ultimate sensory experience as you sink into one of their state-of-the-art sound chairs which will lull you to sleep with soothing music and healing vibrations perfectly pitched to match one another. Ahhh bliss.

4. Indian Springs Resort Spa
If you’re looking for quiet reflection time this hot spring is definitely the one for you. Indulge in one of their many services on offer from the mud and mineral baths to facials or even full-on intensive body works. Or, you could always choose to spend a day blissed out by the spring-fed Buddha Pond and Gardens. This spa is still as luxurious as the others but indulges guests in a bohemian space, with statues of Buddha, outdoor bathtubs, greenery and Indian style furnishings, we are sure that you won’t be disappointed.

5. Baths at Roman Spa
Not only does this spa offer the traditional mud bath, mineral pool dip and massage but it also goes the extra mile in terms of spa treatments. We recommend heading to the Baths at Roman Spa and indulging in the mud bath and mineral pools (obviously) but then as an additional treat why not enjoy a Reiki experience. Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that is believed to be healing by sending an energy life force from the hands which flows through us. It is a unique and deeply healing experience.

6. Dr. Wilkinson's Hot Springs Resort (from USD 503)
Resort fee charged, some hidden fees, but worth the splurge for a cozy, modern retreat with excellent amenities.
Spa services, hot springs, outdoor lounge areas, family and dog friendly, retro chic vibe.
Great location within walking distance of downtown, convenient for exploring the town and attractions.
Delicious breakfast, convenient on-site restaurant and bar, but some food options were limited and pricey.
With over 62 years experience in serving customers you’re sure to be well looked after at Dr Wilkinson’s Hot Springs. This traditional style hot spring hasn’t changed its format and why do so when what you do works? Relax in the volcanic ash mud, then dip into the natural healing mineral pools and then finally refresh the skin with a full body massage. It is worth noting that there is a separation between the men and women spa areas.
