Just 2 km (1.2 mi) east of Progreso, accessible only by a small boat, there is a hidden paradise called El Corchito. It is an ecological reserve that has been around for over 10 years. Everything has a green glow to it due to how the sun reflects through the tall mangrove trees. Here, you can relax and take a dip in an open-air cenote — a natural well with waters that are believed to have healing properties. El Corchito has three open-air cenotes — shallow, deeper and larger, and Cenote Pájaro, which looks like a small lake.
