The picturesque town of Arenas De San Pedro has a population of approximately 6,000 people. Despite its small size, it has a relatively wide tourist population mainly due to the stunning Arenas De San Pedro castle. It’s a large Gothic-style castle located in the centre of town. The local church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción was built in the 16th century and is also well worth the visit. For those looking for an adventurous outing, you can visit the Aguila Caves. Discovered in 1963, it is situated right outside of town. Interestingly enough, the town’s motto is “Siempre incendiada y siempre fiel”, which translates to “always on fire and always faithful” because the town has been burned and pillaged so many times throughout history.
