Walking in the hostel, you will see a long balcony facing the main lounge area behind the glass wall, right next to the reception desk. The panoramic view of the city from here is pretty impressive. You will see both parts of the city blending in with each other, with old churches and cathedrals on one side, and skyscrapers and modern offices on the other side of Rhein River. There are tables and chairs for guests to come here, sit down, and enjoy the fresh air while having a cup of coffee, or smoking a cigarette.

All the cups, plates, and cutleries are ensured to always be cleaned.

Beds are made already with its own linen, including free towels. The shower room in every dorm is hotel-like and relatively bigger than what you would see in normal hostels, lifting the experience to a new standard. There’s a closet inside each room where you can store your belongings, though you need to bring your own padlock. If you are opt for something more luxurious, go ahead and book the double room.

Partying and smoking are forbidden inside the room. The whole hostel never seems too loud, enabling guests to enjoy their own time and privacy while still hanging out with each other. The Wi-Fi connection speed throughout the whole building is fast, and never seems to go down.

Where to stay away from the crowd!

Although Downtown Hostel Cologne does not organize big parties, guests often hang out with each other in the main hall area where they can have a chat, or even play instruments (pianos, guitar, etc). As the hostel is operating in cooperation with other organizations in Cologne, such as Cologne’s free walking tour ‘Can You Handle It’, you can always ask them about what kind of concerts, festivals, and other events they have going on in town.

At the end of the day, if you want to stay away from the crowded touristic Dom of Cologne for a while, Cologne Downtown Hostel is certainly the place to stay!
