This little-known shrine was the place where the mutiny of 1857 took birth. While the exact date when the temple was built is not known, it is believed to have existed since medieval times. While the reigning deity is the Hindu God Shiva, there is also a newer temple dedicated to the Hindu deity, Krishna. You may also get the opportunity to see religious ceremonies in progress at the hexagonal hall within the temple complex.

A picturesque, green oasis in the heart of the city, Suraj Kund Park is also home to a tranquil pond. It is a great place for a glimpse into local life where city dwellers can be seen walking and jogging, youngsters playing sports and families spending quality time together.

3. Basilica of Our Lady of Graces

Dating back to the early 19th century, this beautiful Roman Catholic church was designed by Italian architect Antonio Reghellini and derives inspiration from the famous St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Also known as Sardhana Church, this splendid shrine sits amid a verdant landscape on the outskirts of the city. The graveyard located adjacent to the church complex is maintained by the Archaeological Department.

Situated on the banks of the mighty Ganges River, this wildlife sanctuary is home to many exotic species of birds and animal such as Ganges river dolphin, leopards, gharials, swamp deer, and smooth-coated otter. Over a hundred species of the feathered kind can also be found here making it a birdwatcher’s paradise. Marvel at the magnificent statue of the Hindu God Hanuman situated within the sanctuary and step down Braj Ghat for a dip in the river. The sanctuary is located in the town of the same name which finds mention in the Hindu epic Mahabharata.
