1. Enjoy boating at Ulsoor Lake

The city of Bangalore is home to plenty of lakes, each beautiful in their own right. One of the largest (and must-visit) lakes is Ulsoor Lake. Located smack in the middle of Bangalore, the lake comprises of several islands and the best way to explore them is via a boat ride, which is quite a hit with the kids. Paddle boat and motor boat rides are available that takes you right out onto the islands. Keep an eye out for the different species of birds while boating, including herons, purple swamp hens and Brahmani kites, among others (and don’t forget to snap some great photos).

2. Take an edutainment tour of Jawahar Bal Bhavan


Named after India’s first Prime Minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the Jawahar Bal Bhavan is a recreation center with fun and educational activities for kids aged 5-16. There are swings and slides, a toy train ride, adventure and nature camps, film shows, indoor games, a children’s library, an aquarium, and other entertaining yet educational activities. Plus, it is located in Cubbon Park, a central location that puts you right next to Bangalore’s landmark structures (Attara Kacheri and the Vidhana Soudha). It is wise to set aside a good chunk of time, as there is something to try and discover around every corner of this center.

3. Learn about different species of flora at Lalbagh Botanical Garden

Bangalore’s most beloved attraction is Lalbagh Botanical Garden. It houses over 2,500 different species of native and exotic plants and several species of birds. Kids can spend a pleasant afternoon learning more about nature and identifying the many birds, flowers and plants that thrive here. Also, it is home to a 19th-century glasshouse, which is an artistic marvel in itself. The glasshouse hosts biannual flower shows- on Independence Day (15th August) and Republic Day (26th January), which are a must-see for families. Apart from that, there are fountains, lush lawns, lotus pools, a lake, Bonsai garden, and some three-million-year-old ancient rocks on-site.

4. Enjoy thrilling rides at Wonderla

Not technically in the city of Bangalore, Wonderla is located about 28 kilometers (17.39 miles) from the city, but it is well worth a visit. There are over 50 water and land rides, musical fountains, wave pools, a laser show, a rain disco, and several restaurants, making it a perfect spot for a full day out. From softer rides like kiddies wheel, a merry-go-round and crazy cars for smaller kids, to thrilling rides like Recoil (a reverse looping roller coaster), Flash tower (40 meters tall free fall ride) and Wonderla Bamba (an 18-seater ride) for teens and adults, there truly is something for everyone.

The Girias Children’s Explorium is a children’s museum where both the young and young at heart can work off all that pent-up energy. It is divided into six galleries, housing more than 75 different exhibits. Make sure to check out the ‘Splash Gallery’ which has a water table that helps teach kids about the concepts of fluid dynamics, the 'Build Gallery’ where kids can build their own city while learning about applied sciences, and the 'Create Gallery’, which emphasizes on creative forms of expression such as visual art. There’s also climbing nets, reading corners, a cafe and a play area. You can even host a kids’ birthday party here. It is certainly a spot that guarantees fun for hours.
