Originally opened in 1987 on Tidewater Drive, the owners decided to make a second restaurant located near Virginia Beach in 2005 because of their success. The food is very American here, with delicious home cut French fries and cheeseburgers with some great twists. What they also serve though is some awesome seafood. There are a lot of different fish dishes here, like tilapia, haddock, salmon, shrimp, flounder, and halibut, among others.

Shiptown is essentially a seafood restaurant that is open for dinner only. They open at five in the evening and depending on the day are open until nine or ten. The restaurant is an old-school oyster bar, which means they strive to serve the freshest food available. They get daily deliveries of the seafood and other ingredients in order to keep up with their guests. They have homemade hot dogs, Koji-aged Ribeye, blackened shrimp salads, pan-seared rockfish, and special sea scallops with a miso carrot puree over them. Very unique dishes for a unique restaurant.

It may sound odd for a Turkish restaurant to be in Norfolk, but it’s actually a really great place to have a bite to eat. When guests walk up to the restaurant, they can smell the aromas that are within the small building. Upon entering, the spits of lamb and beef are visible to those at the front door. Guests can see the chefs slicing meat off the spits and placing it on the grill to make sure it’s all hot before placing it on a plate.

There is some really yummy food at the Handsome Biscuit, but sometimes the descriptions on the menu are not the best way to see if that dish is the right one. Which is why the staff is super friendly and willing to give their opinions of the dishes before guests place their orders. Most likely, no one will be disappointed with what they order, though.

This little diner is one of the finer restaurants in Norfolk. It’s a small place, only 28 seats, but the food is unique and delicious. Because they rely on local food and farmers, their menu changes as the seasons change, to keep up with the fresh produce that the farmers grow. Their dishes to tend to be kind of fancy, so this may not be the place for everyone, but the food really is yummy and different than anything anyone will have tasted before.

The Pita Pit is a great place for a light lunch. This is actually a food truck that is near the mall, and it is always open. They have a variety of meats, cheeses, fresh veggies and sauces for each pita that they make. It’s like a homemade hoagie but it is in a pita shell, so it sticks together and doesn’t fall apart as easily. It’s fun to make a sandwich with 100 possibilities and it’s a healthy meal.

The French toast in the morning also has some great flavors so stop in for breakfast if dinner is already decided elsewhere.
