Star Wars Land, or Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, as it is now officially known, is just a few short years away. In 2019, you will be able to travel to a galaxy far, far away and you will be able to experience first hand what it’s like to be a Jedi. Disney is still in the construction phase of the two new Star Wars theme parks, but both the Florida and California park are going to be incredibly popular, so you should start saving your money and planning your trip today. Here’s everything we know about Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge so far.

1. Star Wars Hotel

Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge isn’t just a theme park. Thanks to the proposed Star Wars Hotel, it’s also a resort unlike any you have ever experienced before. The planned Star Wars Hotel goes beyond just theme rooms like the ones already available at almost every Disney Park. Early concept art for the hotel depicts it as an actual spaceship, complete with droids that will act as the hotel staff. When you look out your hotel room window, you won’t see Disney World. Instead, it will be like looking out into the deep void of space. So far, the Star Wars Hotel is only being planned for Disney World in Florida and an opening date hasn’t been determined yet.

2. Meet Star Wars characters

Remember when you were a kid and you waited in line at Disneyland to get your picture taken with Mickey Mouse? Well, now you can interact with Kylo Ren or Captain Phasma. Visitors to Disney Parks and Disney Cruises already get to meet Star Wars characters, but when Galaxy’s Edge opens, things will be taken a step further. Galaxy’s Edge will feature entirely new characters that were designed just for the theme parks. You won’t see these characters anywhere else and everyone working in the park will be in character. There will also be some deep cuts and obscure characters appearing in the park. Hondo from Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars Clone Wars is rumoured to make an appearance.

3. Star Wars themed food

Have you ever wanted to try some blue milk? Well, at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge you will be able to sample all sorts of delicacies that are out of this world. Part of the immersive experience will include unique dining experiences. There will be an original cantina that will be inspired by both the cantina on Tatooine as well as Maz’s castle. There will also be a dinner club with entertainment similar to what we saw in Jabba’s Palace in Return of the Jedi. Both these dining experiences will feature new characters and designs that have never been included in any Star Wars movie, book, game or comic book. They will be inspired by what we have seen before, but will offer something completely new.

4. Star Wars rides

What would a Disney theme park be without rides? Galaxy’s Edge will feature Star Wars rides that will put Star Tours to shame. Of course, the keyword once again is immersive. You will be able to actually go on a ride that lets you pilot the Millennium Falcon and how well you do this will affect how characters interact with you in the park. If you crash the ship, you may have a bounty on your head! The other rides will be massive and will put you right in the middle of a fight between the First Order and the Resistance on a Star Destroyer.

5. Immersive luxury experience

Remember that previously mentioned Star Wars hotel? Well, it’s not just a hotel. It’s actually a fully immersive luxury experience. Think of it as the ultimate role-playing scenario, complete with costumes and special effects. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts chairman Bob Chapek says this resort experience will be a part of Disney’s new 360 vacation concept. Your actions will affect the outcome of your story and each person will have a different outcome. You will even be dressed in Star Wars attire. These resort packages will likely cost $1000 or more, so start saving now.

Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge will take place on an entirely new planet in the Star Wars mythos and the theme park will be a trading post and pit stop on the planet’s outer rim. We don’t know the name of the planet yet, but it will be inhabited by visitors from all over the Star Wars universe. The theme park’s name comes from the fact that this planet is located on the outer rim. Based on the concept art and models of the park, it looks like a cross between Tatooine and Yavin 4, with sandy-coloured buildings built into the side of rocks. Vegetation surrounds the outpost and trees line the streets.

Star Wars is the biggest money maker when it comes to merchandising, so you can bet there will be plenty of exclusive collectables that you will only be able to purchase at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. The shops will be fully immersive too, so it will be like you are actually shopping for alien goods on another planet. These in-universe souvenirs will be unique to the Galaxy’s Edge theme parks in California and Florida.
